Is Bethesda trolling mobile gamers?

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 5:44 am

Objectives for 2 bald dwellers.

Objective to defeat 6 deathclaws barehanded.

Inability to delete dwelling spaces after reaching 200 population.

Deleting items one item at a time to satisy a "delete 600 items" objective.

Endurance affecting health points only during the leveling process.

Accumulation of people waiting outside the vault prevents opening lunchboxes.

Zero percent chance of collecting a legendary item in the wastelands.

Even though there's a zero percent chance to collect legendary items in the wasteland, cap of 25 is set for exploration.

Free Legendary dweller for iOS users only.

...are we being trolled?

I was just wasting my 15 minute break playing this tedious game (and free -- don't let anyone let you forget that!) and one of my coworkers told me that Bethesda is just trolling me. It was a joke and we had a good laugh, but then I had this Kaiser Soze / Fight Club moment and I think it's true: Bethesda is trolling mobile gamers.

Perhaps not intentionally, but through the bureaucracy of mobile development in a corporate PC developing/publishing company, mobile games serve as little more than a simple platform to make money to support the primary title for an intellectual property; forever at the mercy of the team that matters -- which is not the mobile development team. In essence, mobile development is akin to trolling the public with an advertisemant in the form of a game.

Is it because mobile dev teams are too small to produce good quality games? Or is it because the primary dev team for that IP [censored] all over mobile dev without realizing the harm they're doing to the product life cycle? Oh damn, maybe I got a little too serious there. Maybe I'm a disgruntled mobile dev that got [censored] on one too many times. Maybe.

Maybe.

The bald one works only if you acquire X bald dwellers after the quest appears. Its very annoying, once it requested 2 bald dwellers too, and i had 4 of 'em in my Vault, and quest didnt update.

The idea behind the game was to promote Fallout 4 AND give the fans something to do before its release. That was BEFORE it made 5 million dollars.

After that happened, all the wrong people took notice in the corporation. Greed took over and the end result is the wreck of a game that we have before us.

There is definitely trolling going on, and the corporate jerks are laughing the whole time.

If they made that much money, they should be thankful and make this game better. Why they ruined it instead.

I would buy the inapp if the boxes are giving something useful.

This is getting ridiculous. For anyone reading this thread, if you feel like us, please be sure to reflect it in your App Store/Google Play review. The developer really needs to understand that their customers don't appreciate this kind of conduct. Maybe then they will actually respond to us.

Developers in general are trying hard to get appstore remove the rating system, because when they make these obscenely stupid decisions regarding their mobile IP's people tend to take revenge in form of bad reviews. "Revenge". /facepalm

Yeah people, giving feedback in a way it is actually heard somewhere is now called revenge. Why? Because internet.

I agree! I was hoping all the bugs was because it was a recent port to Android... had I known they were going to give us a one-finger salute by giving iOS the only excluseive Legendary Dweller, I wouldn't have bothererd even with a micro-transaction durring the Labor Day sale.

Although, the one problem I've noticed with reviews is some incompetent users give one-star and complain about simple things that they should have researched or contacted support about instead.

For what it's worth, supposedly you can complete that objective by sending your existing bald dwellers out into the wastes and then bringing them back. I haven't gotten the objective since hearing that, however, so I haven't been able to confirm it myself.

Bald dwellers are so ugly. I usually send them all to the wastes, with a one way ticket. Byee

But nice to hear about this method. Sooner or later i'll check it too. Thanks!

Yeah it has the feel of being part of the promotion for Fallout 4, and honestly what I would love, is that when fallout 4 comes the vault I made gets inserted into my game so I can raid it for resources. Then the effort put into it while waiting for fallout 4 would be actually worth it.

Yeah...about that iOS exclusive...I contacted support about that very thing when it came to light.

Here is the contents of my support request :

"Can I ask, how the hell Piper is iOS EXCLUSIVE? Fallout isn't even AVAILABLE on Mac!!!

I haven't purchased your products so you can climb into bed with Apple, all the while telling us peons who own Android to go screw ourselves.

First of all, you release Fallout: Shelter for iOS then make us people who use Android (which by the way works on Windows) wait weeks, for it, then if that wasn't enough, you add insult to injury by releasing Piper ONLY for them! Where is the Android exclusive??

What gives?????"

Here is their "response":

"Greetings Overseer!

Thank you for contacting Bethesda Technical Support.

If you encounter a bug with Fallout Shelter, please go to our official forums (http://www.gamesas.com/forum/296-fallout-shelter/%29 to see if other players reported the same issue. If not, please create a new thread to describe the bug you have experienced with as much detail as possible for the devs to review.

Check the compatibility of your device by logging in to the Google Play Store and opening the Fallout Shelter page.

Please note that devices with less than 1 GB of RAM are not supported.

For account, billing, transactions, and refund request please contact Google Play Support:

https://support.google.com/

Please see the Fallout Shelter Help menu for all general in-game inquiries. To locate the Help menu, select the Pip Boy in the lower-right corner of your screen. Click the Survival Guide (book icon), and then the Help menu tab.

For information about upcoming releases, updates, or features, keep an eye on Bethesda.net (http://www.bethesda.net) as well as our official Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/BethesdaStudios%29.%C2%A0%20.

Best Regards,

Bethesda Technical Support"

So I responded with....

"What the hell does any of that have to do with my questions???"

Still awaiting a reply...

Bethesda has enough reason to troll us, mobile game player. They don't want to succeed in mobile gaming market.

Betheda is primaryily PC/console game developer, not mobile game developer. FOS was developed by other developer (Behavior Interactive, Canadian independant developer)

But with unanticipated and unintended success of FOS, The executives of Bethesda rejoiced but lower ranking developers did not feel happy. They thought the standing of PC/cinsole developers in Bethesda was weakened considerably. They felt acute job security threat from advent of mobile game market. So they decided to kill FOS slowly and let FOS fail in App store, of course without the executives noticing such sabotage.

Developers in Bethesda are actively sabotaging FOS to fail slowly. This is only reasonable conclusion that can explain their seemingly stupid changes in recent update.

Still don't understand.

I have heard that they made millions of dollars in the first 2 weeks. Why not improve it and make more?

I would like to pay some real money, but withdrawn after getting all caps from the boxes.

Good luck with that. I emailed support to ask for system requirements since my tablet meets the requirements on the play store, but is still marked as incompatible. The guy sent back an email telling me that vaults saved to the cloud from an iPhone can't be used on an Android phone and closed the ticket. That answer wasn't even remotely close to the question I asked.

In some of the other games Bethesda has, I have had to contact their support. On numerous occasions, the person responding clearly didn't read my issue/question. I had to reply back pointing that out and request that they put a little more effort into it and really read the question this time. Usually the second go around got better results.

I woek in customer service and yes, that's how it works. First you answer a standard e-mail, anyone as long as it replies in a certain way the e-mail. A lot of times you know part of it gets unanswered (policies though). Second time you escalate it if you don't have another standard e-mail (never the same one) that might help in some way. Finally you escalate the case and Head Office SOMETIMES gets the problem solved and sometimes they just reject any solution and you have to call back or send an e-mail sayind "how much you regret...". Lately I'm working with the social media administration and boy does the thing change! Facebook, a comment on the wall is public, anyone could read it. You can be sure they will take that serious and add a reply as soon as they can. Oh it didn't get solved? Another reply geez we definately will do something lol.
