I am placing Fallout Shelter Aside; Possibly Indefinitely

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 10:34 am

Here are the two major reasons why:

1. I was called away for 14 minutes. I know this as I looked at the time when I left and the time I returned. When I returned, for the second time this week since I installed the 1.2.1 update just over a week ago, my vault was in shambles.

1a: 10% happiness ratio

1b: Approximately 70% of my vault was without power

1c: Every vault denizen had less than 50% health

1d: Every vault denizen was suffering from 40 to 50% radiation poison

1e: Even though radiation poison was removed from a denizen and healed, the denizen continued to suffer from radiation poisoning from an unknown source

1f: Happiness ratio is improving at a snails pace despite removing radiation poisoning/healing denizens. At this current time 32 minutes have passed and the happiness ratio has rose from 10% to 11%; or, 1%

1g: To top things off, the game decides to send two Deathclaw attacks at me killing 71 (63%) vault denizens of which I am unable to revive due to previously spending caps to increase power output, upgrading two food production rooms and building two new stimpack and radaway production labs; which, btw, are currently without power. And, at this time, I'm now I'm back down to 10% happiness ratio...

2. Zooming in to raider, Deathclaw, fires, molerat infestations, etc. This is the second most irritable issue I have with Fallout Shelter. I do not want my view zoomed in to the any of events listed previously as it delays my ability to address the event in a timely manner. If left zoomed-out I can quickly and easily assign denizens from other rooms to combat the event. As it is, I have to zoom back out and scroll to the closest room to start moving denizens in to deal with the event.

To be very forthright and clear, I do not use hacks, cheats, etc for any game I play. Never have, never will as they break the enjoyment of any game for me.

You know, I loved Fallout Shelter when it was released. Had a lot of fun, I thoroughly enjoyed being able to manage my own vault and actually spent real money on the game. Now, I am very dissatisfied with the events that have taken place in one week. As such, I am submitting a refund request through Google play. I didn't invest the money into my vault only to have major, game breaking glitches as described above take place which have ruined my experience with Fallout Shelter.

Maybe if Bethesda fixes the issues then I'll return. If not, then that is the way it is and I'll leave Fallout Shelter behind as I have many other glitchy games. I have many other games to play, including other Bethesda games, which do not have these issues.

Are you saying that you left the game running for 14 minutes and then came back to it? i.e. you didn't switch the device screen off when you left?

If that is the case and you left it running for 14 mins without you - then its your own stupid fault, it has to be said. You do not leave this game alone, ever.

If you did switch it off and then loaded your vault back up and were presented with this, that's different, but from what you say, I think it was the former.

@SteveChilds:

To clarify, I am running Fallout Shelter in Bluestacks on my main rig. My smartphone, Galaxy S5, does run the game good but after around 10 or so levels it starts to lag a bit which reduces responsiveness considerably.

This is the second time in a week this incident has occurred. The first incident was shortly after patch 1.2.1 was installed which was Thursday, October 29. I shut the game down on Sunday, November 1 then ran the game on November 2 and found it the exact same way as detailed above in the second incident. It took me close to a week of playing the game two to three hours a day to get it back to where it was prior to the first incident.

This second incident was while I was away and left the game to run. I've done this multiple times since Fallout Shelter was released without issue for up to an hour in some cases. Sure, I had to heal and/or revive denizens from raider, deathclaw and other attacks but because my denizens are well-armed, none of the attacks have ever progressed past the third level. So, with all due respect, with what I have witnessed since game release, I do not buy the "you can't let the game run on its own". As stated, I've left the game running numerous times without experiencing any issue at all.

What I am conveying here is both incidents were practically the same with the exception the second incident was basically lethal. Meaning, prior to the second incident I had upgraded my vault to accommodate the ever growing population needs only to be punished for investing my time and real money into the game. For that I am severely disappointed

Am I angry? No. Disappointed? Much so. However, it's only a game. Nothing to get bent-out-of-shape about and getting upset regarding virtual isn't something that is with my personal character. To be honest, if an event on the same scale happened to me in real life, I would approach the issue in the same manner as I have here except due to real-world implications I would definitely be searching for a solution to receive what I paid hard-earned money for or requesting a refund; which I am doing so through Google Play.

So let me get this right, you're playing the game on an unsupported platform, leaving it running on its own and you're still complaining that the game is wrong?

Disasters do Happen in rooms and you need to be around to cope with them. As you found out, multiple events in the same room prove lethal to the inhabitants, but yet this is somehow the game's fault, not yours?

The disasters rank up over time plus when you rank up the room the disasters get stronger, so something that was coped with one minute can overpower the room the next.

Sorry, but this is your own fault for abandoning your vault and it's dwellers and leaving them unguarded against the worst the wasteland can throw at them.

I appreciate it's frustrating, but you cannot blame the game and asking for a refund is just cheeky.

Leaving the vault unattended for 15 minutes is disastrous. It's like taking your hands off the wheel while driving down the expressway. Obviously your vault is going to crash. Resources will go uncollected; power, water and food will drop to zero; rooms will go dark; dwellers will become starved, irradiated, and supremely unhappy.

Personally I'd stop playing FOS if it DIDN'T crash the vault after 15 minutes of inactivity.

The problem is prior to the 1.2.1 patch I have been gone longer than 14 minutes many times. Why would this change after the 1.2.1 patch?

They probably tweaked the settings so that either the incidents favour rooms previously 'hit' or the chances increase the longer you play.

Or you were just lucky the first times...
