Money for Bethesda, happiness for Overseers!

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 11:22 pm

OK, so I figured I would register to see if we can actually solve the problem that everyone in the forum is so upset about. Several other posts cover the various issues in detail so I won't go into depth. The largest problem, so far as I see it, is that you can now only get legendary items from lunch boxes. A lot of users are understandably upset after grinding away to max out their dwellers' stats only to find that when they send them out into the wasteland (regardless of the 25 dweller cap) it is impossible for them to find anything above a plasma rifle.

Now, let's confront the obvious elephant in the room. Users have no incentive to spend any real money if there is a reasonable legendary drop rate in the wasteland. Whether they want to admit it or not (and the silence pretty much says it all) Bethesda deliberately removed the legendary drops so as to get users to buy lunchboxes and thus generate more revenue from the game. As a developer myself, I have no issues with a publisher trying to extract some cash from their software, especially when it's a great game (as this obviously must be to have such a following). What we need is a way for both parties to be satisfied. We need a mechanism that will allow users to achieve a complete legendary collection, while allowing Bethesda to maintain their revenue stream.

I'm open to anything that achieves that goal and I'm sure the users here will have even better ideas that I do but as I started this topic I'll throw out my best suggestion. Give all Mr Handys (or create another purchasable unity like Mr Handy) a passive ability "boosts wasteland legendary drop rate). I would suggest that dwellers still need to be out past 3-4 days in the wasteland before having a chance to get a legendary so as to reward users that went to the trouble of maxing out dweller stats. This would be a very simple change (not even the need for any new units, mechanics or rooms) and directly reward users with legendary drops in exchange for cash while not breaking the mechanics of the game.

OK, like I said, I'm sure everyone else has a bunch more ideas that solve this problem. No doubt the wonderful devs at Bethesda can come up with a few ideas themselves. I hope that someone with the power to make a few changes gets around to reading this thread and any others with realistic suggestions to make everyone happy so that we can all get back to wasting (cough... investing) our time and money into this game.

Okay I'll go.

Reduce the number of legendary items. (Period)

Right now.

Weapons

22 common, 57 rare, 60 legendary (139 total)

Outfits

16 common, 36 rare, 39 legendary (91 total)

22 Legendary Dwellers

That is a total of 121 Legendary Items out of 252 items. (ie approximately half the items are legendary)

Here are some ways to reduce the number of legendary.

-Relabel some power armor as RARE items; Consider that some of the power armor available only give a 4 or 5 SPECIAL boost which is equivalent to a Rare out fit boost. (reduces legendary by ~8 items to 31)

-Change the cut-off avg damage of common-to-rare-legendary weapons; Cut off common to rare weapons is at 7 damage (Enhanced Saw-Off Shotgun and Rusty Laser Pistol); Cut off rare to legendary weapon at 17 damage (Plasma Rifle)

and

-Change the rarity based on damage and not because uniqueness damage ie; Red Rocket, Lone Wander.

(reduces legendary by ~21 to 39)

Retotal of legendary is 92 items compared to 121 items.

36% of the total items compared to 48% of total items.

Not more than 84 hrs. Because it will take half the time to return. Explorers may also get an auto recall due to maximum number of items collected.

I would also suggest on the Lunch boxes:

500 caps should be removed from the 4th card.

Lunchboxes purchased with real money should be legendary guaranteed. e.g.

1. Rare and above in 3rd card (no caps) and

2. Legendary in the 4th card.

There are 38 outfits, 60 weapons and 22 dwellers. Developer should get a lot of revenue and player will be more happy to pay.

I also find the the items in the lunchboxes are rigged in a way very unfair to the player:

That is a total of 121 Legendary Items out of 252 items. But the chance of getting a legendary from the box is very little. This should be ratified as well.

Quick question out of curiosity - Why is legendary so important (gear, dweller or weapon)?

If it is to earn the 'badges' fair enough if that is important to one, but they are for sure not needed to play the game. I can build my vault to capacity and protect it from all incidents (raiders, deathclaws, molerats, radroaches) well enough with common and rare items.

I have been playing solid for the last month and have really enjoyed it and I do get the thrill when an objective lunchbox yields a high spec item (rare or legendary).

Unless, Beth releases some new content soon, I will be done with the game. Other things to do, other games to play!

I think you hit the nail on the head. As it currently stands, once you get to a certain point in the game it is very easy to keep your vault running safely. I think the viable "end game" is for people to try to collect all items (including legendaries) but as it's currently structured there is not enough incentive to try for that as the objectives become too repetitive as well as taking longer and longer to achieve (extinguish 30+ fires... ugh) and that's the only way to earn lunch boxes, which is also the only way to find legendary items. Thus if people want some reason to play past a certain point we need an adjustment to the methods available to obtaining legendary items.

Here's an idea-- make it so only Mr Handy can find legendaries out in the wastes. That should spur Mr Handy sales.

They should let the players pay up front, like a priemum game. With the extra goodies in default.

Such as paying $5 and given 4 extra boxes + 1 Mr. Handy. If ten thousand people playing, they got five hundred thousand at least.

Players will also be happy. If they don't like the vault, they can delete and going back to the beginning with the extras still there.

Boxes and mr handy are more useful in the early game. In the endgame, it depends on how much player would pay for the legendary.

Im perfectly happy with playing the game as it is now. Just with no or an abysmally low chance to get one from sending dwellers out. I think i have 3 legendary items, 2 power armors and 1 minigun from lunchboxes .... and i never rly felt like i needed legendary to reach a goal ... there is no goal .... having fun is the goal in my head atm. If they nerf the crap out of everything below legendary, and force people to buy legendary because dwellers die after 24 hours outside. Then i will have a problem, then i will stop having fun, then people wont think "you know, im having so much fun, i think ill buy a pack for 10 euro's". Then they will go "[censored] this pay to win bullsh*t". And you will have 10 guys who use their mommies wallets to buy stuff and play it and are happy, and 10 other guys who are annoyed, still play, but are disgruntled ... and thats it. No large thriving playerbase because i honestly, in my subjective opinion believe many people would just stop playing if it became blatantly pay to win. ........ Long story short .... keep it as is. No chance (although i read the chance was 0.2%?) of legendary outside, its still do-able, but if you want those nizzle miniguns etc, lunchboxes are the way to go. If they REALY wanna make money off this app, how bout some alternative cool look for the rooms as pack to buy. Don't want nuclear but another kind of power source (NOT BETTER!!!) but just alternative look? buy this pack. You love the steel brotherhood and want your vault to get some flags n stuff that goes with them? buy this small pack. There are so many things you could add to this game in the form of cosmetic only, that you can ask real money for, and would not upset those who cannot or will not pay for for mobile games.

Yes, it is true that there is no need to have a goal for this game. Just play for fun.

For those who started before the October update, it may be different.

I started in July and get to 200 dwellers and have all rooms in 3 weeks. It might be an end to me. However, the legendaries were still in the wasteland that I continued playing to fill up the holes. The cutting off of the legendaries made my goal fail. That is not fun.

I failed not because I set a goal too high, it is because Bethesda cut it suddenly. That is not fair.

I liked this game and I am happy to pay some real money for the appreciation of the developers efforts. But not is this way.

So, I'm excited to see that there was a new update. Some of the simple changes are the best, such as the "sell all common items" button.

The introduction of pets is a great move. The free pet I received had a "increase item drop rate by 12%", which I assume means that when the dweller is exploring they will find items at a 12% faster rate. I'm not sure if this has been found by anyone, but if there were such a thing as legendary pets that contain abilities like "increase legendary drop rate by + x%" then I think that would help to satisfy vault owners looking for a chance to get legendary items from the wasteland. It would also encourage vault owners to purchase pets, which makes more money for Bethesda.

There is "sell all commons" in the December update but the equipment menu do not stack up any more. The later made the end game impossible.

And there is no more legendaries in the wasteland since the October update. Increase of item drop only helps in the beginning, however, what is the chance of getting that particular pet in the beginning? Don't fall into the money svcking trap.

Every time we got an update, there is something really bad added. I am very disappointed with Bethesda.

Mr Handy is sort of handy, but he also gets in the way when there's trouble. I really hate how he gets in front of people I'm trying to heal, and really REALLY hate how he runs to the vault door room when raiders come and keeps them there for freaking ever without having the power to kill any of them. Their ability to go find 5000 caps per week is okay in the early game, but pretty much useless by the time you have 100 dwellers.

We need a Mr Gutsy! Make Gutsys cost five bucks each, and make them total wrecking machines. Also, let there be more than one on each floor. 4 Gutsys in the vault door room should be enough to stop all raiders and even a deathclaw or two. Now THAT would be truly "handy," and let me free up the guys I normally have to post on the top floor.

Security robots would also be nice.

Pets? Lame. Give us new rooms instead. Raise the vault population limit, too!

Legendaries?

Ok, how about we get a caravan merchant who comes around one per week to sell us some? We'd finally have a use for all of those caps we find.

Caravan merchant! Brilliant!

Make the legendaries incredibly expensive and rotating (ie not all are available), that would be awesome

Pay the merchant to improve the quality of his gear... Make the pay to upgrade progressive with the last step costing a fortune, thereby getting rid of most of your built up caps. As it is I am deleting rooms an remaking them just set to get rid of the caps. Many ways to improve this game.... Pets? Really? Limited to 40.... Wow really?
