Bethesda - Would you please patch in holstered weapons

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2016 7:34 pm

Good, I see I struck a nerve. I'm not all that interested in what the cynics has to say, to be honest (They don't know for sure, any more than us hopeless optimists do). For all we know, Bethesda could have laid some ground-work already, but for some reason discontinued it, and decided not to include or finish it.

I'm aware that this most probably is not a priority for them. Doesn't matter. I think it is a shame, and I think that it should be. I'm not going to apologize for that, and I'm glad to I'm not the only one hoping for this to change.

Yes! Exactly. Thank you for that :)

Besides, for me personally, I don't mind minor clipping/floating that much. I think the offset thing would do away with most of it anyway. If things get too ugly for me, I simply don't use it. I don't play Fallout predominately for it's graphics. Half of it is about character, and looking cool :P

For me, that is not quite working out right now, with such a crucial element missing.

I swear, in every thread about 3rd person issues, there is a guy like you. We get it, you like first person view. I do too, in combat.

I will not play a game without it. My point was that it's not a priority for devs who look on TP as a less important part of the game. As Fallout games have been FP it's not surprising.

To be honest, I didn't have a problem with this in GTA either. That could be because I did not have prior expectation that it would be included, but I think it has more to do with what kind of environment we are playing in. In GTA you are walking around in a more or less "civilized" society. You are not worried some friggin Godzilla, or pack of zombies, is gonna jump you out of nowhere. If you were walking around, arms packed with guns and rocket launchers, in the streets of Los Santos, you'd start begging the question: Why is no one reacting? Why isn't those 5 wanted stars on me constantly? Crazy man walking here!!! Helloooo?! Why don't you fear me? Etc... :P

The solution is to give firearms at the beltline straps with physics and rifles with slings physics.

Make them jiggle when you jog, run, sprint, and jump. Can work if you make it properly to not clip the armor.

Not sure what the difference would be with adding an animation to remove an item.. Especially considering how sloppy it has looked in every prior game. The clipping shouldn't be an issue either considering it's been present in basically every game Bethesda has made.

Didn't realize the sniper clipped though since it didn't clip with what I was wearing. Thanks for the pic.

There's also what Ballowers mentioned too.. Other games have had no issue with weapons hanging off of belts and slings either.

I remember how bitterly people complained about the offset on skyrim's 2 handed weapons. Te best mods to address it (as well as alternate weapon placement) took years after release to come out.

But to the consumer, EVERYTHING is easy gimme gimme

Meh. This is a waste of resources, and would only positively/negatively impact the 3PS players, which I'm guessing isn't that many players :P

As others have already said if you take into account all possibile bodyshapes, all armors, clothing and weapons(including every possibile mod variation) and do it properly with no to minimal cliping issiues that amounts to huge workload, cud they do it sure, Is it worth all the extra effort, highly doubtfull cuz the amount of work we are talking here is huge and can be used on better things like DLC development, patching the game etc...

Huge amount of work, ha.

Anyway I'm hopeful for its return. People were saying no chance to survival needs, and yet...

Or you know the Bethesda Game Studios employees can just do them all and support Fallout 4 with patches and expansion packs for 3 years or even up to 5 years.

I don't want to see Bethesda Game Studios developed video games supported for 1 year or 1 year and a half anymore.

Personally, I couldn't give a tinker's damn about seeing holstered weapons. To me, it's an inconsequential detail. If it were already incorporated, I wouldn't ask for it to be removed, of course, but I'd rather the devs not spend one minute of time bothering to add it after the fact.

As far as first-person vs third-person, I'd love to see some evidence that "most people" play Fallout in first-person. I, personally, do not. I LOVE my third-person view and only use first person-when it is absolutely needed. Don't get me wrong; I've played, and enjoyed, first-person games (Dishonored is one of my favorites) but first-person is not my first choice of perspective. For those of you who claim to know what the "majority" of players do, please share your evidence.

As for what I'd like to see patched in instead of holstered weapons? I'd like to see corpses highlighted in VATS. To me, that would be a far more helpful addition to the game.

Well it is a huge amount of work in any way of you want to look at it(revamping survival mode is not rly comparable to that), now dont get me wrong wud i like to see properly holstered weapons sure but taking into account that considerable amount of time needed to do it cud be spent on other more important things its not rly that high on my priorities on what i wud like to see added in the future.

The previous Fallout games were FPS games with a possibility to see your char. The current one has pretty good TP, I'm told. In Stalker there is, if you have it turned on, a tiny white dot on the map where dead bodies are, it's useful in denser areas.

Go play ESO if you want pretty dolls to play with, hell the game even had me doing it. I did fight FP though, although it's frowned upon in MMOs. ;)

i just want to bump this thread , so bethesda can see it every time they click on the Fallout 4 General Discussion tab

- i want to see holstered weapons make it back , all of them ... not just the hunting rifle and 10mm pistol

- if they found time for Food, Water , Sleep ( which won't change anything in survival mode btw ) i think they can find time for holstered weapons

I want to play third person but for some reason I keep switching back to first person when there's a fight.. Aiming just seems so clumpsy and.. wrong.. in third person. You also don't get the cover feature in third person.

Regarding holstered weapons though, I doubt we'll see it. Why? Well simply because we would have had it was easy to do. There's too many variation in the armours and there would be severe clipping. This is most likely also the reason they haven't made it possible for you to equip armour pieces on clothes that at first glance should be able to. It looks very half arsed and unproffessional when half the armours (or in this case - weapons) are clipping.

Even if I miss having a holstered weapon I'd rather have them focus their time on the DLC's and other new content.

It didn't trouble you to read any of the sage responses in this thread then?

If it was easy to do, they would have done it.

It wasn't so they didn't.

I initially read this answer on my phone, so I didn't see who made the comment. Now it makes more sense.

I was under the impression that the previous Fallout games (at least FO3 and FO:NV) were role-playing games with shooter elements, not specifically first-person shooters. Where did you get that information/classification that you state as a fact?

Anyway, no one said anything about "pretty dolls" and I don't particularly appreciate your attempt at being condescending. In any event, the argument about holstered weapons is moot if, as some of you have contended, the vast majority of people play in first-person (I'm still waiting to see evidence). If you're in first-person most of the time, why do you give a hoot where the weapon is when it is not in your hands?

I would rather devs did other things myself. As I said I played with dolls in ESO, so condescending, is certainly a reach.

Anyway I had a serious crafter setup in ESO and made a lot of outfits for many people. The stuff in that game works well for that kind of thing, and that's the only reason I suggested you go play it. The Fallout games have all been FP before this one.
