Anyone else have this experience? Whoever he is, it seems he comes when a certain music plays.
I haven't but now I'm really curious. Did you notice any benefits?
If you find him in time, you get Caps
Sounds really cool but I wish he could drop something other than caps... I have plenty of those and more. Maybe if he could do random drops... sometimes caps and sometimes an awesome weapon maybe?
Still... I haven't found him yet...
As if I don't have enough caps already and this patch just introduces more ways to get more caps, lol. How about putting in more ways to spend them than building/upgrading rooms and reviving dwellers...
After several receipts 300-500 caps I got 2 x 2500. Great guy. =)
He's pretty much Mysterious Stranger from Fallout 3/ New Vegas, from apperane to music.
He actually seems to spawn quite frequently in my vault.
He has a time limit as well: can't find him? You get an "oh well too late you nub" fail music. The music itself is a bit low key, so it's hard to notice in all the ambience of the vault.
He is much easier to spot when you zoom out, where you can more easily see what and where your dwellers are; if you have a 2-person room and you see what is clearly a third guy, then he's there.
He wears beige trenchcoat and dark hat, so he is hard to spot in rooms like Nuka Bottler, but easy to spot if he's in the science lab, where there is a lot of blue.
He's always partially behind room geometry, so don't expect to see him standing in the open. Just waiting for you to spot him in an instant.
So far, he only gives bonus caps (last time it was 765 caps), which is a pittance compared to just rushing all your rooms every 24 hours. Plus he's hard to spot in large vaults. By the time you've rushed all your rooms you probably made moe caps than he would grant, plus XP.
Unless he gives massive XP bonus or legendary weapons, don't get worked up over missing him.

He can also appear out in the open, in my case once right in the middle of the medbay, or in an elevator room, which can complicate odds if you use elevators to block off molerat attacks.
I've gotten over 2,000 caps once, but missed the exact amount, as I was distracted by seeing the rain of caps animation for the first time(Ooooohhhh pretty! )
I've heard the music plenty of times but didn't know what it was. Since reading this, I have heard the music 4 times, but you have to be really fast to even find him because it seems like only a few seconds before the too late music plays. I have seen him once in an elevator room, but he vanished just as I got the curser over him
Yes, you are absolutely right. The mysterious stranger is a nice addition (and it's fun to tap him, anyway).
And now, with 10 explorers, it takes a long time to earn caps.
