First, I'd like to note that this is my first Fan-fiction story, although I do have previous writing experience. Hope you guys enjoy! :)

--Utterly Wasted - The Prologue--

December 23rd, 2279

Helen and Thomas lived happily together in their little shack made of scrap metal and wood. Helen was 68 years of age, and Thomas was 70. Although their house was in a secluded area, far away from most threats, they did occasionally meet up with some trouble. Raiders and Slavers, along with Super Mutants, knocked on their doors every once and a while.

Thomas was not a skilled shooter, nor was he good with any other type of weapon, leaving him and his wife almost defenseless when hostiles arrived. A few years earlier, the couple were attacked by a fairly large Super Mutant. Before Thomas could load his Hunting Rifle, the Mutant had already injured Helen quite severely, leaving her almost crippled for the rest of her life.

At around 8:30am, on December 23rd, 2279, Helen and Thomas just awoke from their slumber. Thomas stepped outside, lit a cigarette, and sat on the chair outside of their home. After a few moments, Thomas noticed a small object heading towards his home. It looked like a rock, or some other small, round-shaped item. It landed just a few feet from Thomas. The object then exploded, ripping an entire wall off of their house, and throwing Thomas several feet in the air. It was a Frag Grenade.

When Thomas opened his eyes, all he could feel was pain in his legs. Helen screamed for help from inside the home, which was now half-destroyed and slowly burning. Thomas dragged himself inside the smoking building, and scrambled to rescue his wife. Thomas' legs were clearly broken, and Helen could not walk on her own. There was nothing the couple could do to defend themselves. Not knowing what to do, Thomas climbed into the bed that his wife was laying in, completely defenseless.

"I love you, Thomas." Helen said to him, tears in her eyes. Thomas paused, and looked at her.
"I love you, Helen." he replied. Helen smiled faintly.

The couple held each other tightly, and Thomas reached for the unloaded .32 Pistol under their bed. He quickly grabbed a few .32 rounds, and placed them inside the chamber of the pistol. Aiming it into the smokey rubble that was once his home, he waited.

As the smoke cleared, a gang of at least five Super Mutants, loaded with Assault Rifles and Miniguns, were clearly visible. Thomas cocked his pistol.

Oh hell, are we going to see a nice elderly couple get blown to bits, or are they going to kill themselves?

Okay, so I don't know what level of criticism you want from this, but I'll give you my two cents on something regardless, since I decided to read this through. The beginning paragraphs, where you provide information on the characters, are not good ones. I dislike when someone opens by providing information as you have, as it doesn't feel natural and breaks flow before it can even begin. It would be better if you were to provide it via the characters themselves, in my opinion.

Other than that, it was okay, but it felt rushed. Like you tried to do too much in too little time without providing enough detail.
