To anyone who may find this,
I am Marius Ventrillus, I come from large settlement to the south known as Princep, near the ruined city of Raleigh. Enclosed in this journal is a record of my travels through the Capital Wasteland, as well as maps and notes that I have completed or begun, hopefully these will be useful to those who find it.
Entry 1
I've finally found time to rest and write within my journal. I actually arrived about three days ago, when I had arrived at the wasteland I was greeted by sand, and rocks, not much different from where I come from. I had heard from travellers about a settlement known as Megaton, and thinking that would be a good place to start, maybe set up there as a base of operations where I could go out from to explore this land.
Luckily the journey was quiet and as I neared Megaton I stumbled across an old town, not much there besides the silence of the past, most of the buildings having collasped and the wooden frames having rotted away. Well that was what I thought until bumping into a floating ball shaped robot, which I believe is some type of radio as it was spewing out nonsense about the Enclave and this President Eden, I had no idea who they are, and didn't care much and just left it there, in the town of nothing.
Megaton was much more alive, I was greeted by another robot, not in the best condition, rusty and it's movements looked forced as it tried to move the old joints, but it was amazingly still working. It seemed to greet me like a cowboy of old, it gladly let me in, though I was a bit worried about a bomb it mentioned. Entering the gate and seeing what the bomb was made me worry even more, they built a town around an atomic Bomb? I guess they have a reason too...
As I was walking down towards the large bomb to get a closer look I was intercepted by the Sherrif, he also seemed to have this cowboy thing going on with his coat and hat. I was worried at the time, had I done something wrong? But he welcomed me and asked my business, when I told him that I was mapping the area he took some slight interest and pointed me towards some major spots and told me where a place called Rivet City was, and that I could most likely travel with one of the merchant caravans if I needed help getting. I had no intention of leaving anytime soon and planned to stay as I mapped the area. I asked where I could rent a room and the sherrif directed towards Moriarty' Saloon as I was told there was beds there I could use.
When I had gone into Moriarty' Saloon I wasn't impressed, a I don't know what at the bar, look like it's skin was peeling off and it's speech hoarse. I later found out that he was a ghoul, they were affected by large amounts of radiation and they look like walking corpses, poor bastard...
I had asked about a room with a red headed women who looked like she worked there, she told me the cost and also implied I would get her to. I was astounded by this, seems the community I grew up in was policed much more and certain things like that are prohibited, though doesn't stop them trying there though. I asked her if I could just get a room, she luckily said yes and I took it, I haven't met Moriarty yet, the owner of this 'fine establishment'.
Entry 2:
I've been in the Capital Wasteland for almost a month now, I recently just finished mapping out Springvale, the abandon town which I came across when I got near Megaton. Well it isn't as quiet as I first thought, a group of raiders have set up shop in the old school just at the town's edge, a few of them took pot shots at me when I got too close, so the area around the school goes unmapped for the moment, maybe I should hire some mercenaries to help protect myself, I'm good with my rifle, but just enough for hunting and keeping away stray creatures which choose me as their next meal, so there is little chance that I will be going back without protection.
I also stumbled across a vault, the entrance in a cave just overlooking the town, it had a 101 in the vault's door's center, it was sealed shut, and getting through it will be impossible with out the password to access the controls next to it. So I'll leave it be, though I am curious about it, as it looked like it had been opened very recently. I wonder who came out, or went in, I've no idea.
When back in Megaton I thought I would get some supplies, I was greeted by a women who seemed quite optimistic and also seemed to have a screw loose. Found out her name was Moira, and she offered me a job to help with her book, when I found out I would need to get irradiated I refused, I'm healthy, and I would like to keep it that way, strange women indeed, she didn't even seem that disappointed when I had refused and just said she was sure another would come along soon.
Well this is what has happened in the past few days of my experiance in around megaton, I now have Moriarty shouting at me to pay my tab, best do so before I'm kicked out.
Entry 3:
Well I've left Megaton for now, I had been travelling with one of the merchant caravans, Boris, the leader of the small caravan, didn't have any problems with it, I was an extra gun if it came down to it. Well it did, we got into a fire fight with some raiders, one of the guards the merchant hired has been shot through the head, and I didn't come off to well, taking a round to left upper arm.
The raiders seemed to just wait when they had us hiding behind a rock. Though we got saved by a random wanderer, no idea who he was, just had the number one hundred and one on his back, and it looked like his clothes had been armoured, pieces of metal and wood thrown in to give some protection, as well as poaches to store items.
Getting to Rivet City, I was greeted by a machine of the past, a large ship of some sort which the people of Rivit City had made their homes on. The guards were not to impressed with another person showing up that wasn't one of the regular caravans. They just waved me onboard when I told them I was a mapper, not taking an intrest.
One of the first things I did when got in wa looking for a doctor to sort out my bullet wound where I had been shot hours earlier when getting ambushed by raiders. I was told how lucky I was my wound hadn't got infected, none of the caravan guards or myself for that matter, knew much more then cleaning and bandaging a wound. Though the clinic sorted me out well, aswell as take a good amount of my caps.
I tried to get details about the surrounding area and the ruined city of D.C. Most got a bit worried when I brought out my note book and started making notes, a lot of people were worried about what I was writing, specially since quite a number of wastelanders can't read or write themselves, and I had to constantly explain what I was doing. One man even asked me if I could teach his daughter to read and write, though I had to kindly refuse, I had no intention of staying longer then needed in any one place.
I've rented a room in the Weatherly hotel for now, nice place, the owner seems nice enough, though she is a bit of a gossip. She tried to get me into one of her little sessions, but I managed to get away, I needed to sort out my notes of the area, and figure out where I should go to start off this area, and from what I've heard, hire some fighting hands to assist me.
