[SOLVED]

Hello CK Users,

I'm having a slight issue when trying to make a custom house which I would like to be placed into the world of Skyrim. So far I'm just trying to make the interior and this is where I'm having issues.

So I'm loading the Skyrim.esm within the CK. The I'm duplicating the aaaMarkers Cell, to make my new home, adding some walls and stuff, then I'm adding a COC Marker so I can spawn into it to test it and make sure it's the correct size. 9 times out of 10 my CK Will crash when it's minimised too, so saving before I test is something I always do.

I'm saving as "CustomHome.esp"

So now after CK crashed, I want to carry on making this house/shack. So When I open the CK I'm now loading Skyrim.esm and CustomHome.esp I add some more stuff and then go to edit again. When I save I'm having to save as "CustomHome_v0.01.esp" as I can't save over the previous esp file.

Then when it comes to loading, I the CustomHome_v0.01 save, not CustomHome as the last one takes priority.

Can I keep working on the one .esp file? Or do i have to save as something else,

thanks in advance!

Goose.

You can just hit the floppy disk icon thing and save your work? Or does it always ask you do give it a new name? If the latter, has the file somehow been set to Read Only?

I have only made a few of mods the CK but I don't remember any issues saving.

One thing, do you have Skyrim and the CK installed in Program Files or Program Files (X86)? Or somewhere else (hint, somewhere else is better)

Are you setting the custom home as the active file when you start the creation kit?

In the little 'data' window highlight your 'CustomHome.esp' plugin and click the 'Set as Active File' button at the bottom.

You wouldn't believe how many times I have forgotten to do this.

Once loaded the second time, so Skyrim.esm and CustomHome.esp are set as Active files, hitting the floppy disc then makes me make a new file.

As for your second question, I have steam installed in a custom location and the CK is installed via steam. So it's all in the same location:

E:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim

I do, it still doesn't allow me to save over it.

thats odd, check the permissions on the file and make sure its not "read only" same with the folder its sitting in

n.b. make sure Skyrim isn't running in the background either

It's saved within

E:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data

Could that be the reason why? Because it's saved within my Skyrim Data Folder?

The "CustomHome.esp" isn't read only BUT the Data folder is.. So that could be the issue?

EDIT: Tried to make a seperate location on my desktop with the .esp and It didn't work, tried to make the "Data" folder not read only. Nothing could be found by CK so had to revert it back to "Read Only"

EDIT 2: After just loading the CustomHouse.esp and not the Skyrim.esm I am now able to save over my previous esp but it's making .tes files with the same name? I've tried to load the mod in-game and it's not reading the .tes file.. so I'm still stuck with the progress I got with the 1st save of CustomHouse.esp

Nevermind, I got this resolved.

I only loaded the CustomHouse.esp and made sure it was unticked as Read only, this allowed the temp save files to be applied to the main plugin file.
