Save File Help?

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2016 8:56 am

Hey guys, I did something really stupid. I deleted my primary game (over 8 days of play). Now, I managed to use Recuva to get a singular save that fallout seems to recognize as a save file, but the picture for the save is just static, when I try to load it it freezes the game, and when I try to load the game into the save editor it says that the save has a range check error. Is there any fix for this?

Sounds like you have to start another character unless steam cloud has a game save for you.

Nah. Steam cloud never showed up for this. Just spams me with auto saves I intentionally deleted.

Did you check the recycle bin on your desktop? Generally smaller files are sent there. Unless you emptied it.

The 'recovered' save has already been partially overwritten and it simply isn't fixable unless you use a hex editor (or similar) and know exactly what data is garbage or not.

You should have multiple save files backed up on multiple storage devices.

Steam Cloud doesn't protect against accidental deletion (in-game), it only protects against hardware failure and deleting any files manually from the saves directory (not in-game).

Okay. That's what I was afraid of, but yeah, if that's what it is I'm figuring it'll take just as long as playing over 200 hours over again.

You can't be just using one save file for 200hrs?...
