Get Ballistic Weave as non-Railroad?

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2016 5:18 am

It's more of a gameplay mechanic, but can we get ballistic weave as non-Railroad? This is like the best feature in this game for those who want to dress in regular style clothes, but they don't want to side with the RR, like skip them entirely, it really limits roleplaying ability due to how good such a feature is being tied behind a faction. I know we can do this on PC, but I kinda want it to be in-game for for those on consoles also. Like we could read up information from a Railroad terminal on how to do it or have it anolyze by MM, BoS, or the Institute.

considering who you get it from, and the area will not open until you talk to leader, I don't see how you can get it outside of console cheat.

When you think about it, nothing about it require that person, just as with anolyzing certain things, it's all in the terminal, so they could place it in the terminal for us to read.

You can walk away from the RR after you finish the required quest.

Yeah, but in some games, I want to avoid them entirely and want nothing to do with them. While other groups' perks are mostly cosmetic, RR's perks are more gameplay and essential, especially if you don't wear PA. I can't wear PA because I play in third person, and PA covers up half the screen making it impossible to see anything and shoot.

Ballistic Weave is a must for me as I rarely wear power armor because the head bob can induce a seizure (no joke).

Edit: I understand for most players ballistic weave may not be a necessity, but I admit I'm a lousy player. My reflexes are shot from nerve damage and visually impaired, but I love-love-love games.

Given that your character was either in the military (if male) or married to a member of the military (if female), I suppose a holotape could be added to your original Sanctuary house with details about the military applications of ballistic weave. Perhaps the male protagonist had pre-war knowledge of / experience with ballistic weave as part of his military career. Listening to the holotape would unlock ballistic weave, for players who prefer to avoid the RR quests. If you unlock ballistic weave via the holotape, the person at the RR would simply acknowledge that you have already unlocked it in the same way that Ronnie acknowledges if you have already cleared the rubble at The Castle.

Agreed! Would love to get this modification ability on my playthrough, where I finished a few too many BoS quests and PAM didn't want to talk to me afterwards for some silly reason(still could have chosen Railroad at that point).

Each faction should have a quest for this feature. Or maybe they only added it to the RR because they had little draw for anyone to join them?

I just head canon it that I am spying on the RR for the BOS/Institute and run the few preliminary quests needed to unlock ballistic weave. You don't have to commit to the RR to get it.

The Railroad has it because they are undercover and as such do not want to wear neither armor nor uniform in public. The other three factions have proper armor and uniforms and as such don't need things like Ballistic Weave.

They have uniforms for when they have to make an armed assault at another army. But most of the time, they act undercover. It's a bit hard to hide from the Institute and others when you walk around in a uniform.

Here is how I figure it.

My character is a lv 4 armor, weapons and science blacksmith. lv 3 melee blacksmith. Knowing how to make Ballistic Weave should be second nature. Therefore I do NOT consider it a cheat when I use the console command to give myself an ability I SHOULD already know.

If you are playing on the PC, you can enter the following commands in the console, which will allow Ballistic Weave without ever stepping foot in the RR HQ.

Set RailroadClothingArmorModAvailable to 1
Set RailroadClothingArmor_ChanceNone to 0

You can't and it makes 0 sense that RR has the "technology" and the others don't.

+1

Which I don't even know if you can require that through buying. There are like 5 versions of the RR coat and I've come across them more from killing them & looting than from buying.

Still need proper materials, tools & know-how to manufacture something like that tho. Anyway they should've made it a research thing you obtain from a military compound. Like you can find magazines n stuff.

Yep. That is how I did it if I remember correct.
