Start a new character...

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2016 10:47 am

... Or shall I wait? I've planned to start a new character (science, institute) so I can have a total of 4 character with different playstyles to switch between. I wanted to do this before the first DLC since I think this character would be suit best with building new robots with automatron DLC. But I'm a bit worried how it will be with the new survival feature content that is being released, will it be save game compatible?

I definitely want to play with survival aspects and it would be a shame if I would have to scrap that for my already existing characters but would be even worse if I just created a new one that I can't use it with. I presume that it'll be compatible with save games considering I can't recall any patch or content for neither Fallout or TES requireing you to start a new game. However, I figured I ask if someone has read otherwise or if you know more about the engine to tell me not too worry (or the other way around :P).

Bonus question:

Spoiler
To those who have played with the institute faction choice, is https://i.redditmedia.com/yzgRZDc4OW6a-hcppYjVnwUN48BTAIcDC0ctq0CURhA.jpg?w=320&s=c1c93dac058f78fafa2592b676563b7b avaible with them? Saw it when looking in the art of fallout 4 book...

Hm hard to say in theory the survival chnage should work normaly with old saves, however there have been plenty of things in previus Bethesda patches that only worked on a new game, so while a patch never forced you to start a new game there has been more than one fix in the past that only worked on a new game(its true though that those were quest fixes etc.. )

I'm wondering if the new and improved Survival Mode will still be something we can toggle freely, or if the changes it makes require it to be permanently set at the start of the game... I'm guessing it'll be a toggle, but who knows?

And yeah, I'm taking a Nuka Break from Fallout 4 until the Survival Patch comes out. That'll give me some time to build up a character to jump into Automatron, at least.

Nah, Beth will make it always available. It's not their style to make it only available by starting a new game. In MW, they even allowed you t start the post-MQ DLC without ever completing the said MQ (and dialogues act like you finished it).

That Power Armor does NOT exist in-game at all. Although you CAN get an Institute Paint Job for you power armor by completing the Main Quest with the Institute, The Institute Paint is an X-01 Power Armor Paint and makes it White with the Institute Symbol on the Chest, the paint has an Intelligence Increase effect.

yup... same boat.

I did notice I still had 10 achievements in Steam to pickup, but those will require more detailed RPG style finishes for each faction. Kinda blazed thru the 2 times I did finish!

I got a feeling the automatron DLC is going to be released first, perhaps even the wasteland workshop. Hopefully it is released together with automatron though. I don't mind starting a new character before the survival release as long as it works with existing saves. If it would be released soon I think they would have told us a release date (atleast a monthly release date)

I'm wondering something similar too. I want to make a new science based SS but I wanna know if Automatron is a guy showing up and releasing robots (in which case I'd start it now to be ready to face that post-MQ) or if robots will be added as a new enemy types from the start (in which case I'd wait until it releases to start so I could start tinkering my robot buddy from the get go)

Personally, I'm hoping to get all 4 "styles" done before Far Harbor. Since I don't do companions at all, the prospect of a robot companion holds no interest for me. I'm also not interested in making a zoo. Far Harbor is the only thing announced so far that piques my interest. That's not to say I think the others are worthless -- they just don't appeal to me, and that's ok. I'm sure they appeal to other folks.

I've completed two factions endings already and am about 75% through the third. Once Third done, I plan to immediately start on Fourth. I also have my own "Survival Mode" character going and I'd like to finish her story, too.

I worry about Beth's Survival Mode overhaul. If their version of "Survival" is still tied to bullet-sponge enemies, it's not for me. That's why I'll continue working on my own personal Survival character. I really like the challenges I've tasked her with -- she lives with highly restricted resources, options and opportunities. If it turns out that Beth's new Survival Mode is independent of bullet-sponge mode, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised :).

I hope it's seperate as well but after I've read what they announced so far a few more times I think it'll be either; A - the new features just gets tacked on the current survival difficulty. B - they completely redo it with damage dealt/received plus the new features (hunger, thirst, decease).

I'm actually leaning towards B, since it would be more balanced then just slapping on the new features. But I'm almost sure it won't be seperate based on their latest announcement - "a complete overhaul of Survival Mode that changes how you play the whole game: food, sleep, diseases, danger and more".

It's an overhaul, danger could mean more damage recieved and dealt? Anyway it'll be interesting to see as long as it's not option A. Then I'll get dissapointed. Won't be much of a problem though since it probably won't be long till a mod comes along and fixes that.

I'm going to wait until April to start a new one now. Get the joy of Survival + all the DLC's. After that the next one will be mods included!

In my defence I have a very large mod planned and will be spending the time between on that to keep me busy.

IT probably be some kind of trigger, but not necessarily after the mq. Or perhaps a "manual" trigger so you can decide when to start the quest. In any case i'd like to try and wait till after the release as well.. But I probably won't be able to contatin myself and start a new character anyway and regret it later :D
