DLC idea - Melee "Brawler" Power Armor upgrades

So I was a little disappointed that the Power Armor was incompatible with fist weapons or that there wasn't really a default melee attack for it. Especially after seeing the Pain Train perk.


And yes you can still use blades or blunt weapons with the Power Armor, none of them really feel all that appropriate (except maybe for the super sledge).



I love the concept that Power Armor is now a vehicle and not just another type of armor. But I think that it should have some melee specific weapons and mods along the lines of the Pain Train perk.



So how about that for DLC. Power Armor Melee weapons? A super version of the Power Fist, or a heavy duty sword like New Vegas' Chainsaw and Bumper Sword. Just make them entirely dependent upon wearing Power Armor.



And it could work in game if they're being sold by the Atom Cats!



If anyone would try to design melee weapons or even a new "brawler" style of Power Armor, it would be the Atom Cats. While the overall idea isn't the most practical compared to just loading up a gattling laser, it would have a certain style to it.



Maybe it's the Texan in me, but I'd love to see a suit of roughly modified suit of T-60 designed to boost the damage from Pain Train, with a pair of Bull or Deathclaw horns attached to the helmet. Or a Power Armor version of the Deathclaw gauntlet. Maybe it's a special suit designed to for up close and personal Deathclaw hunting?

There are buffs to unarmed in the arm mods for PA. Not great but they are there.

You could go unarmed, but that's not really my point. What I'm trying to say is that none of the melee options really feels as impressive as melee fighting in Power Armor could be.



It's not that the buffs should change, or there should be OP weapons or perks added, but that the overall feel of melee combat with Power Armor could really be spiced up with special weapons and armor.

Oh, I'm fond of my Stunning Super Sledge for bashing stuff. I like how it's a one handed weapon in PA, although I always play FP.

Oh ditto. Love using the super sledge for my melee character. I was just rather disappointed that the new "vehicle" version of Power Armor wasn't compatible with the fist weapons, and that sparked the whole idea about expanding the Power Armor melee combat options.

Honestly the only thing hurting playing a brawler in power armor is that there is no way to quick unequip a weapon so I can't just hit a hotkey and go unarmed in an instant.

I'm actually thinking about this as less of a "Fixing what's broken" idea and more of a "expanding on gameplay without breaking the game" idea.



We don't need a melee power armor concept or tools to boost it. But that would be really cool if it was done right.



So how about this? Do you think that it could be done without either breaking the current "balance" of combat or while staying within the general themes and overall concept of the Fallout setting?
