Good settlement help

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2016 2:15 pm

I want a settlement that has little to no permanent buildings on it and no un-kill able settlers. Preferably unlock able at a low-ish level because my charecter is only level 15. Thanks in advance!

All you have to do to achieve that is just put in sleeping bags where you can fit them, and add makeshift or prefab shacks if you run out of indoor space for beds. I often use the large wooden corner prefab to build 6 bed (sleeping bags) shacks when minimal space is available.

Always add up resources needed when building small shacks out of prefab corners or modular pieces, because it's often more cost effective to just use an already built shack. The large wooden shack at first seems very costly, but it will fit quite a few sleeping bags.

As far as not permanent, all workshop items can be stored vs scrapped, so you should never lose them, and you never have to leave them where you put them either. And to keep settlers from being overpowered or invulnerable, just don't give them better weapons or armor, and use minimal camp defenses.

Just make sure when you store items, that you separately store items you've put on or in it first.

Starlight Drive-In has a couple of permanent buildings, but lots of open space in between those buildings. There are no settlers there.

It's close to Concord, so easily accessible at low level. All you have to do is kill some molerats to open it up.

I thought he was just saying no unkillable settlers, not no settlers period. LOL

The only problem with Starlight is it has a nasty little rad pond in the middle of it, and the quest to open it up as a settlement requires placing a beacon, which ends up attracting well over a dozen settlers.

The rad barrels can be scrapped though. Which reminds me, I've yet to do that. LOL

That said, you could just take down the beacon as soon as the quest ends, and send anyone that comes to another place.

No, Starlight Drive-in can be unlocked simply by killing off about a half-dozen Mole Rats. Long before you start the questline you reffer to.

Starlight is pretty much the first place I go. I tend to use it as a settler gathering place and it (and Sanctuary) are the only places I keep beacons up. Then I send settlers to other settlements from there as needed.

If there's a quest that says set up a beacon I'll set it up, get the goal then take it down.

FYI that quest you refer to can send you to any one of a number of settlements.

The first time i played I established settlements before getting quests to establish them so a later related quest wasn't actually required to be given.

Also sometimes the existing named settlers at a settlement can give you a similar quest.

Yes, I know pretty much ANY settlement can be unlocked by just traveling to it, clearing any hostiles, then using the workshop, but it's quite likely the way the game starts that you will be given it as a quest before coming upon it, esp your first play through. I also clearly stated you can if you wish take the beacon back down right after putting it up anyway, so get off my back guys.

you can set up the settlement beacon, then turn it off after you get your 2 or however many settlers. if you don't like clicking the 'off' button, you also have the option of scrapping the wire so it doesn't get power.
