Poll: Your roleplaying style saves

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2016 4:23 pm

I`m curious.

What roles do you enjoy most of all, or what role did you choose for your main playthrough?

And how often do you save your game?

In all fallout games I usually roleplay a very good character, helping everyone, not asking for money, no serious crimes etc, and I enjoy it most of all. But I`m thinking of creating a bad character - an anarchist or an evil one. Just for a difference. I never did it before, so I`m not sure that I will enjoy it. But I guess that I can always turn him/her into a repentant criminal who is going to atone his sins. Sometimes I play without any role (when I just want to see another endings or quests , but can`t adjust myself to roleplay it)

And about saves.

I think that after running into some serious bugs I became OCD about saving and I do it very often. Wondering if others experience it too.

Rather good but does commit crimes sometimes is how I play. I've tried going full evil but it wasn't enjoyable.

I chose 15 minutes though I actually save based upon this plan (as I have for FO3, FO:NV & Skyrim):

- Prior to engaging in a side-quest or main story quest - clearing out a location, etc.

- After finishing a side-quest or main story quest if I am happy with the outcome.

- Prior to scrapping any terrain or objects (On PC, use various scrapping mods).

- After finishing scrapping terrain or objects (as long as there are no glitches, especially with terrain).

- Prior to engaging in conversation with a main NPC (Cait, Piper, etc)

- After engaging in conversation with a main NPC if I'm content with the outcome

I am all for due diligence in both games and personal life. Makes the world of difference.

Playing any RPG sort of game I always play the first playthrough as a cliche noble hero good guy, in a stealth build.

Regarding the saves, I should really save every 5 minutes but I always forget then when I see a legendary sentry bot firing away....then I think about my life decisions.

At the beginning of fallout, I was stealing everything, but the consequences of getting caught are so dire that I've toned down my thieving ways a lot.

I have always had a mild obsession in previous games, and in any game with a moral system or even in DnD to play True Neutral characters. Too bad F4 doesn't allow you to do so. Or else I would be playing true neutral characters.

I save every 15 minutes, maybe even less, depending on how many enemies come at me and flood me like [censored] up the creek. Because this game favors big giant shootouts, where as I don't.

I usually think what would I do in this situtation and then do that. As far as saves go, the game auto saves enough that I don't bother actively saving most times. However if I'm about to do something insanely stupid or risky just to see what happens, I'll save right before it.

Yeah I found full evil was a lame and that was probably because there wasn't a truly evil group to join...... :sadvaultboy:.......always felt too shunned after killing certain people..no love is no good and in 4 a full on evil soul survivor gets no love.. Also I quicksaved all the time

Main character, druggie doesn't care about good/evil. Just does what suits him.

Typically, I play a good-ish character. She tries to negotiate. She tries to avoid conflict and/or violence. However, she will always defend herself and those she feels are victims and she feels no qualms about that. She will also use violence if it is the means to greater good. That's how I went through my first two playthroughs. I recently finished a third playthough with another good-ish character, but she joined a not so good-ish faction (I'm doing one playthrough per faction) I was hoping these folks would redeem themselves before the end, but they didn't. Unfortunate. Although I'm glad I did it, it wasn't a comfortable (or particularly enjoyable) playthrough.

I just started a fourth playthrough in order to wrap up the factions. This character will be joining the most reprehensible faction (my opinion, of course), thus he will pretty much speed-run through. I've built up an intense dislike of this faction through the other playthroughs. I don't approve of what they represent, nor do I approve of the way they behave in the Commonwealth. They are flat-out bullies. This is going to be a very difficult playthrough for me, I think, but I want to do it for several reasons: 1) perhaps they will redeem themselves (highly doubt it), 2) I want to see their ending and 3) to finish out my trophy list.

It'll be challenging to figure out how to play this fellow without him being a bully himself. How will I justify his decision to support them?

With regard to saving, I'm with D4rkInv4d3r (post #6 above). I probably quicksave every few minutes (sometimes, depending on the situation, every few seconds). I used to depend on quicksaves and three auto saves mostly, making a hard save every 6-8 hours. Learned my lesson, though, on this most recent playthrough. I was about to finish up a Main Quest quest when the game glitched hard. Could not complete, meaning I could not continue with the Main Quest. All my autosaves occurred AFTER I started the quest. The only hardsave I had was 8 hours ago. Grrr.

Now, I do a hard save every hour or so. I still quicksave like crazy :D.

I can't help it... I tried to only choose the mean or sarcastic replies during my 2nd play-through, but found myself reverting more and more back to my old "nice" replies! LOL So, yea, I usually play a nice character that sometimes "helps" herself to things that do not belong to her. hehehe

And saving... OMG I save like every 30 minutes and definitely after I made additions to my settlements, after I decorate a table, before I have an important conversation, after an important conversation, before a mile stone quest, after a mile stone quest... LOL I have deleted over 2000 saves already, no kidding! :)

For my first character in these games I usually build his story around what he does in game without trying to hard to fit in a role, sticking to one basic "archetype" that is liable to change.

My first F4 character was amazed with the power and flexibility of energy weapons, adopting them early on and siding with the Institute (as my character is sort of a nerd) though after the backlash from the Institute scientists he abandoned the facility to conquer the wasteland with Cait. After running low on supplies ammo he was more or less reduced to a simple scavver and forced to use melee weapons as a solution to his now-limited supply of bullets; quickly coming to prefer and master melee as a result. After spending some time as a constantly-chemmed scrap armour knight he recently has found himself cleaned up and back with the Institute, readopting energy weapons and adding melee to his arsenal.

I save all the time because I'm on Xbox currently so if something goes wrong (which it always does) saves are my only hope.

My bad, did not expect somebody to be obsessed with it even more than me. ;)

Almost same as me, I got 2000+ saves , but I`m too lazy to sort it . There were some important saves there, I can`t imagine how can I find them now :)

I think I miss the karma system too. The game has not enough consequences for your choices. I can do almost everything I want and it doesn`t make any effect on the ending. Nothing apart from the main quest has any effect on it. It`s still fun, but it was better with karma on my view.

And thanks all, it is interesting to read about your characters and experience. I even got a new idea for my second character.

Whenever I play a character I normally don't think of his actions as bad, a person who deliberately acts as something they consider bad just for the sake of it is not right on his mind. So every character I create is normally supose to do what he believes is right, or what must be done. Morals are social constructs, there's not absolute rule of what's good and bad, with the right kind of logic you can justify any sort of atrocity towards anyone. Whether it is for survival, self gain or a greater good, I prefer to create characters that evolve naturally the way I play and along my playthrough, I think any person is subject to change, and Bethesda games are perfect for this.

With that in mind I don't really have a defined pattern to follow other than to let the events develop my character, and avoid premade static personalities based on my own biased views.
