What the title says.
What the title says.
well fallout 4 tops the witcher after all, that says it all, fallout 4 is the game of the decade
Some of the Game of the Year Awards were given out before Fallout 4 was launched. It's my game of the year as well.
It's my game of the year, but I can already see this thread devolve into a Witcher is better than every game ever made in a few hours.
Ive never heard of the dice game awards before it popped up on that news thing on Steam.
Awards still do mean something, although most of that value comes from the sustained and large amount of them rather than the individual authority of each award. Or atleast that's just how I think of them.
I hope this thread doesn't turn into a Witcher 3 versus, but the awards given out this year are well deserving since we have had a whole bundle of quality games coming out in 2015. I just like to see them as a recognition of overall quality rather than objective quality versus whatever game didn't happen to win the award.
It's a Bethesda game, and it's a Fallout game, so there were already awards set aside for it by the plethora of gaming sites even before it was released. That's the trouble with these sites giving out awards - [censored] will always decide that a developer name and game title are all it takes to beat out better games from lesser-known devs.
I'd be cautious about starting threads like this. The last thread that was started congratulating Bethesda on winning the DICE GOTY award devolved into flamebaiting and fighting, and was subsequently perma-closed.
Meh, Forrest Gump won POTY over Pulp Fiction. Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back was largely panned by the critics when it was initially released, what can I say it, usually takes YEARS to determine the greatness of an articstic/entertainment endeavor.
This is an award by the industry's peers. I can see why others in the industry would vote for FO4 as Game of the Year. BGS is still hard to beat when it comes to open world game and the Commonwealth is an impressive gaming world. Personally, I look at my Steam account:
The Witcher 3: 198 hours.
Fallout 4: over 500 hours and still going.
W3 is a great game, but numbers tell me all I need know which game I prefer in the past year.
So let's just say taking out the big names like Metal Gear, Witcher, and Fallout, what lesser games should win game of the year?
both games deserve all the GotYs that they can get
we can only hope to have another gaming year that comes close to 2015, in the future
and Rocket League deserves all the awards it got as well
best multiplayer game ever made <3
Witcher is sitting on about four times as many game of the year awards at the moment , and from more well known awards.
Aren't the DICE game awards decided by game developers? I think this game really deserves this prize, and Todd Howard deserves a promotion at Bethesda.
Witcher deserves it, their game was a great accomplishment, even if I know I would never enjoy it. I think people get too heavy into the sports team mentality of Fallout being better than The Witcher because thats how they personally enjoy things, and rather than saying that Witcher deserves its praise for doing its own thing it turns into a flame war of how Fallout 4 is so much better or is a complete travesty in comparison or all of that terrible stuff.
2015 is probably one of the best years gaming has had. I also remember 2011 being a big year, and 2007 and 2004. Atleast for PC gamers.
I see more Sport team mentality from Witcher to be honest. It's not just Fallout games, Mass Effect and Dragon Age often have people come over and talk about how better Witcher is, how better Witcher is to Fallout, but I don't often see people talk about how better Fallout is to Dragon Age or Mass Effect. I saw really obnoxious comments on youtube for Fallout trailers, IGN articles about Fallout, Dragon Age, Mass Effect that have nothing to do with Witcher but see a ton of Witcher comments in it. I saw an IGN article talking about Fallout, someone posted a gif of a mic dropping and say "Witcher, that is all". Whenever a thread about Fallout wins GOTY, someone has to come in to talk about Witcher. I play both games, and I see the good and bad, but the Witcher fans leave a bad taste in my mouth about the series.
I can echo what you are saying. Fallout 4 has gotten a lot more hate directed at it than using it as a hate object against other things.
Also I know how you feel with the Witcher fans leaving a bad taste in your mouth. As much as I think New Vegas represents something truly fantastic in terms of Bethesda's work and how it relates to other companies, but then people seem to want to use it to sports team around when the reality is far different.
Also its not just Bethesda that has this, I am pretty sure you could actually have enough numbers for a real armed conflict in Call of Duty versus Battlefield, and going with something im more familiar with I have seen loads of sports teaming about the original X-com and its spiritual succesor in Xenonauts versus its more modern, popular and different sequel in Enemy Unknown and X-Com 2.
LOL ignore those Witcher fans, they are ignorant n00bs, don't know what a real RPG is about. Simply put, there is no RPG comparable to FO4.
As stated in my post above, yes. I'm sure other developers appreciate how difficult it is to pull off such an ambitious gaming world like the Commonwealth.
I hope Todd and his team got a nice big cash bonus out of releasing Fallout 4 this year.
Hey, I'm a Witcher fan! I read all the Witcher novels, too. However, you can only play as Geralt for so long before you find yourself wandering back to one of Tamriel's provinces or the Wasteland and rolling a new character to try out some new mods. CDPR cutting back on their modding tool's capability was what made me lose interest in the Witcher 3. A modded BGS game will always get more attention from me.
Never played Witcher, must admit, so I'm pretty sure its cool in its own way, i guess. I just like making fun of the Witcher fan-boyz that plague this site lol.
But yeah, its a different game more comparable to Zelda and Metal Gear than Fallout/Skyrim, again not really a RPG.
