Settlement Help - with Repairs And Where 2 find Fusion Cores

Post » Thu Feb 25, 2016 2:31 am

Hello once again... and in need of help. --I am on a PC running WIndows 10.-- --Have not finished an FO4 game.--

Q1 Background: (the most pressing since I am being attacked fairly frequently by raiders and SuperMs at both Abernathy and Sunshine) FYI: I am still trying to avoid Sim City a la FO4 but I just have to much conscience to totally ignore the few "settlers" at Abernathy and Sunshine (among a couple of other sites) that I have due to quests. So I have put in some crops, added H2O pumps, and a few heavy MG turrets (and a bed or four if needed) --still not gone to Concord and relieved the Minutemen (this is my 2nd attempt at the game -1st time I quit at level 12 or so when my PC broke beyond repair with an unrecoverable boot error...

The issue is REPAIRS at settlements: so, I am now at level 23 and almost 24, and I need to repair some HMG turrets and I can not figure out how to do so from either the workshop screen nor just facing the turret and hitting (or pressing E for a slow count of three). I have even tried to superimpose a "new" turret image over the existing turret to see if this would do the trick --no banana.

Anyone know how to do repair turrets [or anything else that might need it later like damage H2O pumps or generators] without having to scrap the old turrets [equipment]? I have sufficient resources to build a couple of replacement turrets if I have to, but I would think repairs would cost a lot fewer resources and I do not have that much oil even if I gathered it all up from all four of my sites (+ Home Plate, though Sanctuary is my prime resource dump at this time even if a little out of the way).

Q2: Background I have 10 unused Fusion Cores and 6 partially used ones that I have taken from generators or found in the now four partial suits of PA I have found (adding to 1 full T60, 1 partial (helmet and torso) T60, 1 partial T45 (2 helmets, 1 each torso, left and right arms, right leg). This number of FCs does not seem very high. So:

a. Is there a place to find FCs (not to purchase)? I found most of the ones I have when I helped the BoS at Canterbury the one time I have "formally" interacted with them. Most of he rest (if I don't misremember) were 4 each at the Federal Depot and the Ft Hagen area.

b. Some more background: I have been using combat armor as my main protection (adding shadow and light mods to my now (finally) Strength 4 character who is primarily a stealthy sniper type) until a few legendary armor pieces have been "acquired" --again adding shadow or lightmods (if practical)-- which have added PER AGI + decrements in damage from Bug Human and Mirelurk opponets as bonuses [all of which have greatly assisted in my characters survival].

But I now need to go into the Glowing Sea and (rightly or wrongly) believe I should go in my T60 PA. If possible, and not knowing how long an FC really lasts, I think 10 unused FCs may not be enough to go into unexplored territory (I plan to go from my last known spot of the Shamrock Brewery So to University (which is on my map but not a fast move location since it is "undiscovered" then onto Jamaica Plains enroute to the Dr that defected from the Institute (and thus allow me to pursue the main quest some more). Thus the question(s) 1) about how long does an unused FC last (I have the repair perk that adds FCs last 10% longer)? 2) Does the game spawn more FCs for you to find (and/or buy) if you use PA?

Anyway, thanks for the time. And in advance, thanks for the helpful advice. Good night and Good Hunting!

regards, RC

While in Workshop mode highlight the damaged turret and one of the menu options should display a repair option.

The repair, however, won't proceed if you don't have sufficient repair items in your inventory or the workbench to effect the repair.

In my experience you will need more than enough repair components as the game doesn't accept just enough repair components.

Extremely short video of turret repair process illustrating required repair items.

Note if you have a settlement properly set up with adequate resources in the workshop or resources available in other workshops connected by supply lines then turrets are an item that can self repair after a settlement attack.

With fusion cores.

As you know they are found in generators.

generators can be found all over the map.

Some behind buildings.

Some in basemants

Some on top of buildings.

The generators give off a distinctive sound, so keep your ears open.

The fusion cores are also random loot in containers.

The more containers you look in and the higher level you are the more you will find.

As people level up they usually end up with more cores than they need to power suits.

The game supplies enough for the suits and ammunition for a particular weapon.

Additionally many players find at higher levels they rely on power armour less.

My character, for instance has a couple of hundred of cores stashed around the map.

The character also has a power armour suit at each settlement with a core in it for the settlers to use, if they so wish.

Also if you come across sentry bots they are powered by two cores.

Additionally sometimes you can get them by various means when you come across friends or foe in Power armour,. The required method to get them would depend on your skills.

One of my personal favourites is to run up behind a foe while they are outside their power armour and engage them in battle.

When they are dead i take the core, direct the companion, who likes to steal things, into the suit and then dump the suit at the bottom of a lake with all the other stolen souvenirs.
