Synth Babies

Gen3's have a 1.6 oz of plastic in them (.1 lbs). It's most likely the shutdown mechanism that performs the memory wipe and responds to the code word because Ayo tells you that's hardware based.

Otherwise, Gen3's are totally organic. All of the programming talk is basically conditioning and genetic modifications.

It's what they tell you about how they're made and the reason Father says in the terminal that they are synths and not androids. They are artificially created humans as compared to robots shaped like people, much like a synthetic diamond compared to a natural diamond. They were created with Father's DNA and FEV (which explains why they don't age, are immune to radiation and are sterile) and this is all explained in the FEV terminals when they talk about how they used it to create the synths organs.

The synth parts themselves that you can extract weight 0.1 lbs.

Ayo tells you that the shutdown mechanism is hardware as compared to being programmed into them so they can't override it.

They're not humans though because they aren't completely genetically human and they were artificially manufactured.

If synths can't age then it's unlikely that they could develop a foetus and grow it in their body. Not even sure if Synths can grow a beard or, even smaller, a pimple.

Given the Insitute reportedly struggled with

Spoiler
Mayor McDonaugh's replacement having been required to be premodeled as overweight

according to a Terminal, that pretty much sets everything else in stone for me. Synths are perfectly yet time-frozen copies of humans.

At least until they explain how Synths heal injuries or whether they can even get infected with disease - we only know for a fact Nick, i.e. Gen 1 - "Gen 2.5" Synths, is immune to radiation, and that's probably cause his/their body is not nearly as advanced (in mimmicking the human organism) as his/their mind is.

If that is an undisclosed phenomenon, is it true to conclude that Curie was basically programmed to be horny?

Synths are programmed to emulate many aspects of life to make it easier to infiltrate into regular life, they don't grow, they don't need to eat or sleep, but these things are being programmed into the synths so that they could easier infiltrate human society. Ability to have six is probably one of the things they need to account for if they replace a husband or wife or something. As Nick said, if their purpose is just to fight, then there is no need to make synths feel pain, asides from the Institute being sadistic which is unlikely since it would reduce synths' combat ability, so it's there mostly for them to emulate life.
