Building up Spectacle island

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 11:39 pm

As I stated in an earlier post, I have waited to level 50 to grab Spec.

It doesn't seem practical to walk in the entire island. I am thinking of just fencing in some crops and cows, maybe some housing compounds and setting up bunkers or turret nests at strategic points.

Where do attacks come from or spawn on the island?

Whatt have others done?

I have a settlement there, 4 houses (2 floors each one) , shoping centre on the water with a bridge to it, an open restaurant on the beach. I did not build any walls. Only turrets and guard posts. And there are many spawning points there. One is on the north west edge, near to the ruined house somewhere, another one in the east/south-east, not far from the tiolet with a red door. I think there are at least 2 spots along the west side shore and probably some spot in the middle. Not sure about the last one, but I`v noticed dead bodies there, they were killed by my turrets.

And one more thing, it`s better not to use that hill (with fence) for crops. It often gets under fire from the north-west spawning spot.

In my current playthrough, I have only one settlement and it is Spectacle Island. I have 20 settlers, two stores and I built the settlement around a "resort" theme. Each settler (except 6 guards) has their own house, so I have 14 houses total and I plan on adding 11 more settlers.

I use it as player housing with no settlers, only a provisioner, it has never been attacked in my game using one of the events 'defend xxx'. Ocasionally a sinlge none-levelled mirelurk has spawned but that is all.

I was only attacked one time by super mutants and they spawned in the little marshy area by the tug boat (the one with the generator). At the time, I had only two or three settlers, three or 4 super mutant masters spawned (don't remember my level), one had a mingun, I circled around behind them while two junkyard dogs (Gene's dogs) kept them preoccupied enough for me to kill them. Prior to the attack, I was setting up some houses for future settlers when I heard one of the settlers shooting. Got out of workshop and ran around the house that I'd just built on the beach to see the mutants.

After the attack, I put up a rather high guard tower by the transmitter shed to overlook the entire island, I also installed a siren on the tower. I put turrents/guard houses on top of hills overlooking valleys all across the span of the island. I think I have at least 20 turrents spread across the island, I even have one mounted on the two boats that are partially sunk just off the beach.

I built a huge city here all single homes, a barracks where the speaker trailer is, and a fortress on the other hill. About 20 settlers are scavengers, and they patrol the whole island. It's neat watching them patrol

I built it up as a "super settlement." If not for the lag, I'd turn it into a full blown city. I essentially built it up as a giant "table." On top of the table are five buildings. One is my house, one is a generator tower, one is a housing tower, and the final two extend all the way down to the ground. One of them is an entrance to get into the settlement/security tower, the other one is where I keep my crops and trading posts, as well as some additional beds.

The basic premise is to keep my settlers inside and away from spawns as humanly possible.

I love Spectacle Island, and I build either massive all-inclusive structures that are concentrated to a specific section of the island or extended esplanade-type things that aren't very tall or very indoors but that stretch the length of the island and cover all the vantage points and high ground. I would post pics or links if I had 'em.

Attacks are infrequent, but I've had Gunners, Super Muties and Deathclaws show up. They usually spawn in the southwest section of the island, though they can range around the perimeter a bit. It's actually a bit disappointing, as my latest build has a defense rating of 450 or something, but it's never needed. LOL. And yet, poor little Somerville Place or Coastal Cottage regularly get attacked by large groups of Super Mutant Overlords or Warlords armed to the teeth. Don't all these Overlords and Warlords have minions to send out to do their bidding???

spawn points I have seen are cove to the west, between houses in the north, eastern coast by outhouse, and hill to the south.

I have done several incarnations of settlements there. Always install around 20 heavy turrets.

My last structure I built was an attempt at making a yacht on the water. looked cool, 5 stories high! really looks more like a tall riverboat, but hey, it's all good!
