How important is saving Kent Connolly?

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 8:42 pm

Basically I can't do it. I can't even get Sinjin to talk to me.

I can kill Sinjin and his pals but want to know if not saving Kent impacts the game at all?

if kent dies, (or lives and you dont convince him to keep going) you cannot upgrade the silver shroud armour

Very important. What would the Silver Shroud be without his faithful friend Rhett Reinhart?

There is no consequence, but if you like the Silver Shroud costume, he will upgrade it for you some times after the quest is over. You can snipe Sinjin's head from afar. They will start to shoot you if you get too close to them, reload a save and get close enough to him while he speaks, it may allow you to speak with Shinjin.

Thanks for coming back so quickly. So basically it won't stop me from accessing future missions but it'll just mean I can't upgrade the armour?

Thanks. I watch a video that suggested using Jet to get close to him to make him talk. Are you suggesting two potential options I) get close enough to talk to him OR II) Snipe him from the lift door as soon as it opens

If you kill Shinjin with a snipe, he won't kill Kent. Yeah, regularly, they shouldn't go hostile unless you get too close to him, walk toward Shinjin, after he's done talking, he won't do anything, and if you keep your focus on him, a dialogue option should appear. Are you in Power Armor? Sometimes Power Armor could mess up the dialogue options for certain quests.

don't snipe him as the door opens. play the quest scene out. intimidate his cronies with the Silver Shroud Intimidate option. Then, as soon as the scene ends, pop jet and psycho and blast him to hell.

I killed him with Kellogg's revolver from the elevator.

Half-way down the elevator ride, you can hear him call out...
"Shroud! We just wanna talk!"
I left my power armor rig on the floor above, immediately before pushing the elevator button.
Dressed as the Silver Shroud of course!

The elevator opens, you walk one-two-three paces forward, and the game 'grabs' you, taking control and launching into the dialog...
It can't really go wrong.
Always speak as the Silver Shroud.

Actually it DID go wrong for me one time - because I slid sorta to the left when coming off the elevator (trying to get a better line between Sinjin and me that didn't have Kent interrupting it).
Sinjin said "oh no, you're not running away from this one" heheh, and everyone went red and started shooting.
Yes of course, killing everyone is relatively trivial...
The big trick is to keep Kent alive!

On my everyday setting of hard difficulty, I couldn't do it. Sinjin was a bullet-sponge.
I popped him in the head four or five times with my nastiest weapons - all chemmed up with my very best - at he lost maybe 20% of his health.
Kent died a half-dozen times before I temporarily reduced the difficulty level before getting in the elevator.
On my first playthrough (normal difficulty) I had taken Sinjin out and saved Kent no problem, though.

If I'm trying to accomplish something but fail, I'll reload and try it again...
But that's just me.

if you have decent charisma its a rather easy

just convince sinjin that killing you first will hurt kent much more, then they will all target you not kent

Use psychojet! Best of both worlds lol

If you don't save Kent I don't think you can upgrade the Silver Shroud costume, so it depends on how you feel about that. Also, Kent is a great guy so you should go the extra mile for him. If Sinjin won't talk to you, that must be a bug or you must be opening up on him before the scripted conversation starts. Make sure you are dressed in the Shroud costume or else it might not trigger. Best way to take him down is saving before the speech check and then goading him into "killing you in front of Kent". That speech option will make Kent non-hostile to Sinjin and his cronies, allowing you to focus fire on him. Then just use psychojet and blow him to hell lol.

It's worth saving him, as that Shroud costume looks amazing and can hold you until abut lvl. 60 if you consistently upgrade it. Plus it reduces damage from you fellow man, so that's cool.

I just talk to sinjin as the shroud...he hates it and his little pals crap thier pants, and actually stand in the corner and beg you not to kill them, it's hilarious.
