Couple of general questions.

OK, I'm at level 19 and enjoying the game a lot. A couple of problems acquiring some items though. Everything "important" I need to make seems to require two basic commodities, at least:

oil and copper. I've tried everywhere but can't seem to find a supply of either. Acquiring them seems to be really hit or miss as far as collected junk is concerned. Is there a good source

somewhere? Can someone help with a hint without giving away the store?

Thanks!

Oil. Look for paint cans, cooking oil, oil canisters and aluminum canisters, soap, lighters and Mr Handy Fuel. If you can find the Super Duper Mart in Lexington, there's a load of Mr Handy Fuel outside the front door. Oil cans and canisters can be find at most workshops and garages you find.

Copper. Look for hot plates, table lamps of various types, light bulbs, cooking and stew pots and fuses. If you get the Scrapper perk, you can also get copper by scrapping Pipe weapons.

Thanks for the answers but I have been collecting everything all along and many of the things I want to build lack mostly oil and copper. Please see my latest post: "Starlite-drive in..." in the spoilers and cheats forum.

Thanks!

You can buy shipments of oil and copper, although I do not remember which vendor offers them. I finally got tired of scrounging around every paint can and table lamp I could find and just cheat coded myself a bucket-load of components so I could actually craft what I ~wanted~. It did help that the patch removed the copper requirement for ~wires~ which was eating me up early on.

If you get the LUCK scrounger perk --- or maybe I'm thinking of the INT Scrapper perk --- then you can "highlight" objects in the world that contain the components you need --- that makes it much easier to find them.

I think you can get one or more shipments of these critical items from the following folks:

  • Carla (roving merchant)

  • KL-EO (Goodneighbor)

  • Arturo Rodriguez (Diamond City)

You can tag junk also from a work bench so when you're out and about the stuff you need will have a magnifying glass next to it indicating what you tagged that had the resources you need.

You can make cutting fluid, which can then be broken down into oil, at a chemistry station using 2 acid, 8 bone, 2 purified water and 3 steel.

Are you remembering to scrap everything before you put it in the workbench? So you don't lose the 2nd, 3rd etc components of something when crafting.

Apologies if you're already on the case.
