Automatron DLC size compared to Fallout 3 DLC

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 1:57 am

I've been looking at Fallout 3's add ons and other than Broken Steel and Point Lookout the other three didn't have more than 4-8 quests in total for the whole add on. So, in light of the first wave of DLC for fallout 4 and more specifically Automatron. According to http://howlongtobeat.comeach of F3 add ons were around 3-6 hours with a completionist approach in play time.

I believe this will likely be similar to the Pitt or Mothership Zeta as far as content given to the player and play time. I think based off the achievements and the price it will be similar in size and we will have a small story line to explore.

What are your thoughts?

there's no point in measuring automatron by "time to beat".

it's main purpose will be craftable robots, and just a short quest to introduce that.

(which is what i took from a recent interview with todd howard on, uh, gameinformer iirc)

Automatron and Wasteland Workshop are more feature DLC like Hearthfire rather than standard Fallout DLC. I wouldn't be surprised if the only new location that we get is The Mechanist's Lair and the vast majority of the Automatron DLC involved creating new robots and the robot crafting system. So players could spend a couple of hours and hundreds of hours on these two DLC depending on their tastes.

Well i am sure it will be the same length as atleast Anchorage in terms of quest content. So about 1 - 2 hours.

None of them come at the same date. March, April, then May so far. We'll likely see the following DLC announcement in June at e3. At least that's the current speculation

So, the Automaton is March, Workshop is April, and Far Harbor is may?

That is correct with GECK arriving between Automatron and Wasteland Workshop and Xbox One getting mods around when Far Harbor arrives and Playstation 4 getting mods a month after that so June. Of course, this is just the planned schedule so it can change due to unforeseen consequences.

Automatron isn't really a story DLC, so comparing it to Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout etc. really doesn't serve much purpose. From the sounds of it, Automatron is going to basically be one quest, with the ability to collect parts from robots around the Commonwealth to build your own. These are likely robots that you'll keep finding throughout the rest of the game. It's not the type of DLC where you travel in, complete the objective, and travel out. You'll likely be able to keep modifying your robot companion and switching their parts up, possibly building multiple robots and so on.

The same could be said for the second DLC with the arena and cages. Obviously we don't know many details about it yet, but it sounds like there isn't going to be any real story line to this DLC. It's basically some new building components and perks, and then the arena fighting. So it's not something that you're going to start and then 'complete'. You're going to build it, and continue using it if you so choose.

Given their comments about Far Harbor, I'm expecting that to be a solid 6 hours or so, or possibly even more, to thoroughly complete.

All I am expecting with Automatron is The Mechanist's Lair. Although, I could see a few missions available. The quests that introduce the DLC and robot crafting, finding where the Mechanist is, and defeating the Mechanist. With Wasteland Workshop, I am expecting a couple of quests to introduce the various mechanics involved.

With Far Harbor, it should be a good 20 hours of content. We are paying $25 for the DLC and we should get at least 2.5 times the content of a Fallout 3 DLC. If we spent more than Dragonborn, then it should be longer than that.

My guess is that the Automatron questline is about the length of the Cabot questline. We've got at least two or three achievements that look quest related, it seems.

Just 6 hours into Far Harbor? I could over 20 hours into Dragonborn or Shivering Isles with all of the side-quest content... hopefully Far Harbor has a good long main questline like Shivering Isles though, Dragonborn's main quest was pretty short.

I see Far Harbor more as a 20+ hours experience, atleast for that price.
