21:9 Support? Please Bethesda

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 3:48 am

Hi all

I've owned my LG 21:9 2560x1080 monitor for a few years now, and I am really disappointed that I have to mod Fallout 4 in order to enjoy the benefits this monitor gives me.

Surely if some third party people have created mods to permit this game to work on 21:9 monitors, Bethesdas amazing team could come up with something in one of their next hotfixes?

I'm posting this in the hope their are others, who feel the same, that many post here to share their feelings on this matter.

mod or config.ini file are easiest way, but yeah would be nice for in-game support.

Check out your Nvidia or AMD launcher controls. My Nvidia will also allow for changes to the .ini file using checkboxes. I have no idea if it supports that resolution you have, but worth a try :)

Thanks for the reply, I'm running 2xR7 360's in Crossfire and was using a mod from Nexus, which uses Flawless Widescreen, however with the latest beta update, entering workshop with this mod (note not using Nexus Mod Manager ) causes an immediate CTD.

I will give it a look, not tried configuring that style of launch before, would it not mess with GUI elements?

I just changed my resolution in fallout4prefs.ini to 2560x1080. Game works fine, scopes and PA UI are the only things that remain 1920x1080 but everything else including workshops are perfect.

Just look for the lines

iSize H=

iSize W=

For FOV these are the lines to look for

fDefaultWorldFOV=

fDefault1stPersonFOV=

Any mods (I can't recommend enough on the Nexus the Ultra Widescreen Patches mod) that touch the interface/workshop.swf will crash in the 1.4.215 beta. Just delete / rename it and you should at least stem the CTDs.

Still waiting on proper 21:9 support Besthesda. I know we're a small % but really, it shouldn't be this hard for you to do a proper release of this rather than relying on mods which potentially break every patch :brokencomputer:

This is a pretty poor solution (but if you are going mod free it's I guess your only solution). The UI is scaled horribly bad this way, once you see a proper 21:9 setup you'll realize how ugly this is and isn't something we should have to settle for a AAA release in 2016 (fine late, late 2015).

I am pleased to see others feel the same, could I ask you to tweet Bethesda and let them know that we exist, and this would be really appreciated if they could help us out?

My only complaints about the UI scaling are scopes and PA as I already mentioned, other than that I think it's perfectly fine. And I have in fact tried it with Flawless Widescreen and decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Sure a full support would be nice, but the issues are very minor compared to some other games and quite frankly I'd much rather have the devs spend that fixing time on the more pressing issues.
