Question about Ram and memory usage

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2016 5:58 am

Hi guys just wanted to know a few things,

Im using MSI afterburner to view my memory and Ram usage while in Fallout

What's the difference between Ram usage and memory usage while I'm playing fallout?

It shows my memory usage going up and down between 1500 to 2500

And my Ram usage will go up to 6000 and drop down a few times..

And a note i think i am crashing to the desktop when my memory usage reaches 3578 though im not 100 %

Have any of you went over the 3578 limit?

My specs 8 gigs of ram and the gtx 970

Thanks for the help.

hard to say for sure why it is crashing. But "memory" can be System memory and Virtual Memory, and the system will alter it's page file usage (VMM) according to the systems' need. That includes all running applications and their current\preloaded requirements.

Ram may be the cards' total memory for the graphics and any 3d processing it is doing. Could also be system memory. not sure how MSI app is reporting.

So if you are crashing at a certain point, then you might alter the settings in the Nvidia launcher to rely solely on vid card for maximum performance vs visual quality.

In other words, scale back on the pretty settings for the game. test and try again.

this is an awesome guide:

I havent crashed for awhile i even tried spawning over 500 ai fighting each other but it never reached 3578 memory i came close though... idk maybe it's not the memory maybe just the game. I also uninstalled a few mods aswell.
