Settlement bug may not be a bug at all.

After 3 weeks of testing this is what I have come up with.

When your pip-boy is saying something is wrong with a settlements water/food/beds are less than what they are you need to check your settlements for:

1. TV's, if any you need to scrap them.

2. Jukebox, if any you need to scrap them.

3. Beds, All beds must have the left hand side able to be walked up to or settlers will not be able to use them.

Its better if beds can be walked around on all 4 sides. (Sometimes it takes the cleanest looking bed and not a mod bed to fix it.)

4. Jobs, Any settler you assign to a job you must also assign them to a bed. Somehow when assigning a job to a settler will break there assign bed and they think they don't have one any more. This goes for guard post guards, you must assign them a bed after you assign them there job even when they will never use it.

So far after doing all of the above for the last 2 weeks of play all my numbers are matching up and they never complain anymore.

Happiness for all settlements now is over 80% all the time unless there about to be attacked then a red arrow will show and I just need to wait there until the attack or a settler will tell me they need help on something. (Do not leave the settlement until one or the other happens. Doing so may break it and the red arrow will stay around until another attack/quest happens for that settlement.)

I havend thought of the thing with beds.. maybe thats why some settlers complain about have to sleep in shifts even tho there's one for each.. hmm i thought they could enter from both sides.

Thank you for putting this up.

Are you sure about this one? I frequently create double beds by putting two beds (the hospital looking ones with the real tall metal headboard and footboards) together so that they are touching, which blocks the left side of one of the beds. I frequently find settlers sleeping on both beds even though the left side of one of them is blocked by the other.

i never take care about direction of beds.

since i leave enough space between them, i never had any problem with them again.

mostly putting them with the side to a wall, so about 50% of them will have the left side blocked ;)

Yes, me too. I only do this for the beds I think of as "mine," but even last night there was a settler on the rightmost of the two. So the lefthand thing can't be entirely right. But sufficient space on at least one side would seem to make sense.

In any event, the Pip-Boy calculations are definitely not fixed with 1.3.

if you are going for 100%, I can attest that you do not have to assign beds for that. Sure, it may increase, but not required for 100%.
I did the 2 settler trick and got it.

I never assign beds and most of my beds are placed against a wall, showing either the right or the left side. I have never had any issues with settlers getting into bed.

I do scrap TVs though, just for space issues, since I feel they are useless. However, I have plenty of radios all over my settlements.

If you're trying to claim that there is no bug then why bother to scrap all the TVs and jukeboxes?

So for example - I have 20 beds in Sanctuary Hills and 5 water pumps. I leave the settlement and when I'm clear on the other side of the map the Pipboy will say 0 water and less than 20 beds and happiness is falling. When I walk back to Sanctuary there are 20 beds listed, all accessible from either side, and all of the water pumps are in working order. I stay overnight and leave in the morning and check on Sanctuary through the rest of the day. It correctly reports 20 beds and 18 water. In a day or two I can check and once again, lack of beds and sometimes water. It may not be a bug exactly, I think the game is trying to tell us that the settlement needs some attention, but I can't tell what it actually needs, the beds and water pumps are fully functional and undamaged and there aren't any bodies of raiders or other attackers lying about to indicate that there was an attack in my absence. There isn't adequate feedback as to what exactly is wrong in the settlement. If you have to scrap TV's and Jukeboxes to make something report correctly I would call that a bug.

Well ever since I placed the beds with the left side open I no longer get the bad report on my pip-boy.

You can say that TV's and jukeboxes are a bug and yes they look nice to have but if you want to get rid of the down red arrow then you need to scrap both.

To keep from getting wrong numbers on my pip-boy this is what I had to do.

Call it a bug but then again it maybe by design and that is the reasons they have not fixed it yet.

All we can do is wait and see and I will follow the above until a fix is done.

If anyone else is getting bad or wrong numbers in pip-boy then try what I posted in post #1 and test it for your self.

I wish they could fix the fastravel bug so you can fastravel in/out of any settlements without making wrong status in pip-boy. When you fastravel to save a settlement under attack, you need to exit and re-enter the area again. You may keep TV, but these have to stay off.

Cheers,

I've never assigned beds and don't notice any difference.

After the patch I don't seem to get the resources glitch on the pipboy anymore.

I still get the happiness triangle warning, especially on big settlements and can't figure out why.

Lots of times I go to these happiness triangle locations and do a few things or assign or move a settler and it goes away.

Sometimes moving some settlers upsets the happiness - It doesn't go up or down but you get the triangle thingy.

I'm to the point now where I don't care unless they drop another nuke on the settlement..it's still baffling.
