11-11-11, too soon to meet expectations? BGS help!?!?!

Post » Sat Jul 03, 2010 11:37 pm

One thing i see about this article is how divided people are on it. Certain things that they added leave a bad taste in the mouth of the fans, but we have 9-10 months left until release and i think that some of your expectations can be met in that time frame. Vote in the poll and post your biggest fear here.

ill start with my fears:

  • i dont feel like the game will have enough to do after beating the main quest. and i feel like the main quest may be pushed on people who like to experience the game world first.

  • im afraid that the game world may not be dynamic enough on a physical level. i mean dungeon mechanics and dynamic environment. i want to see some traps in there somewhere, some slipery ice on a steep slope [fall to your death if not careful] . and maybe the forces of nature [snow wind rain hot/cold].

  • also i really am scared that the difficulty might be tailored to the casual player's specs.
i want a hardcoe mode is what that means.

if we could get some feedback from a dev that would be helpful, i mean your not concealing much anymore now that the mag has released.

I'm not sure, it has been 4 years in secret development and it already looks done.

I'm happy about it. Means that any features they've come up with that were not feasible in the end have been scrapped already, so what we hear from now on should be mor or less what we're going to get. Hype-inducing statements excluded.

Definitely wouldn't mind if it takes longer and costs a bit more. I want the best game possibly :)

did people actually think hardcoe mode was challenging? (also, tangentially related: when is it appropriate to start referring to games in the past tense?)

they've been working on it for five years. it's ready.

What are you on about? You don't think there'll be much to do after the main quest?
How can you possibly guess that? All we've seen are some screens, and a very limited amount of info. Sure, once we've seen some proper gameplay videos, then you can freak out/cry/whatever you plan on doing, but not now.

I say we all calm down, have a cup of tea, and put some trust in the devs, m'kay?
Anyways, you know it, I know it, everyone knows it; no matter how many people complain, we all know they'll end up buying the game anyway. You included.

The hardcoe mode in New Vegas did not really make the game very challenging. It basically the same, just that you character had needs, ammo had weight, and you could not heal yourself as easy as in normal mode.

I hope that the difficulty slider gets improved (more spawns and better AI, instead of more health and less PC damage), and of course a hardcoe mode would fit very nice with that.

I said yes, I would mind. What convinced me to do it was "[after reading our posts]"

While I think any developer needs to listen to their fans, at this point in development changing something in the game because some of the posters don't like it is a terrible idea. Right now they pretty much need to stick to what they are doing. If something they are already working on starts causing some problems then sure, delay for a few months, but absolutely no to changing things to cater to the forums.

Well, I don't really have any major worries this early on, as we still don't know much. But I put that I wouldn't mind, because as it is I won't be able to play it on it's release date (other stuff to do), and if it were to come out a few months later I would be a little frustrated but not heartbroken. I kind of felt that them giving us a release date so early on meant that they were pretty confident, however.

back off bro, i was just trying to get a feel for people's expectations.
and yeah its a minor worry element, its not like i REALLY expect that.
and besides im getting it on pc, so if there is a cs then i should have my hands full.

Anyone who has played a game which was rushed out the door can tell you that the preview shots look nice but that giant spider might fall through the floor when we find its cave. It's better to just wait it out than play New Vegas on release day.

I wouldn't mind if they push it, but I think they don't have any reason to push it. It's gonna be awesome.

This thread is hilarious. Perhaps if the "fans" (don't even know why some of you call yourself that) had realistic and reasonable expectations then those expectations would be met. If there's one thing I've learned from frequenting these forums is that its damn hard to please everyone. In fact, I'll go further and say that if Bethesda were to deliver 99% perfection in a game, people will hurriedly latch on to the 1% of flawed material and never let anyone hear the end of it. Its... its actually kind of (extremely) funny. :lmao:

We only know the surface of the game. I think people are making up their minds way to fast about a game we haven't even truly seen yet.
