You all want to see something crazy?

Loaded up TechPowerup GPUz and set to record while playing Fallout 4. Using nVidia optimized defaults for 3840 x 2160 with ReShade and a bunch of mods. Played for roughly three hours then pulled the data log into a spreadsheet. Check out the VRAM usage...

GPU Core Clock [MHz]: 1200

GPU Memory Clock [MHz]: 1752.8

GPU Temperature [0C]: 79

Fan Speed (%) [%]: 64

Fan Speed (RPM) [RPM]: 3102

Memory Used [MB]: 10188

GPU Load [%]: 45

Memory Controller Load [%]: 25

Video Engine Load [%]: 0

Bus Interface Load [%]: 0

Power Consumption [% TDP]: 72.6

PerfCap Reason []: 4

VDDC [V]: 1.143

I pushed Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas to 3.8GB VRAM usage. Neither would go higher no matter what I did. Skyrim was pushed to using 5.1GB after which it would crash. It is clear that Fallout 4 won this round. :hehe:

I uploaded the three hour slice into a Google Spreadsheet if anyone wants to peruse the data.

Not the brightest on this kind of stuff, but does this mean fallout4 doesnt have a memory limit like skyrim did where you would crash to the desktop

I'm also not the brightest at this kind of stuff, more like a damp match in a wet cave. This crazy thing, so what is it?

The difference between Fallout 4 and all of their prior games, is that Fallout 4 is 64-bit.

Does anyone else get crazy lag in cities? I swear I drop nearly 30 frames in some places of the map - and my PC should be able to handle anything the game throws at me. I feel like certain portions of the game are just poorly optimized.

I experience it in certain downtown areas, otherwise not (stable 60 fps all other places). Standing in the junction just outside Goodneighboor, and spinning around, will drop frames immediatly for example. It has to do with the lighting on the high buildings I think, that isn't optimized properly.

Ok thanks for letting me know. It isn't terribly annoying, I'm used to it (only upgraded my specs recently) but it was just odd to have it be an issue at all.

Basically, graphics/video cards can come with 1GB, 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, 6GB, 8GB and 12GB VRAM (or what is commonly referred to as a frame buffer where textures and other such assets are stored while you are playing a game, to put it simply). I own a Titan X with 12GB VRAM and with the workshop, texture and other mods Fallout 4 is using 10GB of the 12GB of VRAM during peak gameplay.
