Wrong place- maybe? I was wondering if you can play Fallout 4 under the minimum requirements. I understand the word minimum, I was just wondering if it was absoulute minimum. I.E. Anything below the game won't start.. Or if it was just the minimum for anything worthy of playing.

I only ask because everytime I load it on my PC it crashes, so I thought it was the minimum requirement thing. SO.. is it?

It depends on what minimum requirement you're talking about.

And what performance you would define as playable.

If everything doesn't meet the minimum requirement, then no, chances are you won't be able to play it.

While things have improved immensely since launch, this is still a monster of a game, riddled with many, many bugs, many of which can cause a crash at launch. Include a brief overview of your system specs. and you may get a closer answer if any one particular feature is a deal breaker. It may just be that you need to do a fresh install, or disable literally everything else on your system, to play just fine.

Well, my computer is crappy. It's a MacBook air running bootcamp. The specs are:

1.6gHz dual core i5 (turbo boost to 2.7gHz whatever a turbo boost is... does it work to get me closer?)

Intel HD graphics 6000

4GB of 1600 MHz (I think this is my ram?)

?So yea, not great. But should it crash? Also if you know how to activate that turbo boost it'd be nice...

It depends.

For example if your graphics hardware doesn't support DirectX 11 and is below the minimum requirements because of that, it won't work. [without major unstable tweaks]

If you graphics is technically below the minimum requirements, for example, a Radeon 7770, it will still run, however performance may not be good.

The minimum requirements are an estimation of whether or not the game is playable. However, certain things ARE REQUIRED, like Shader support, DirectX support, VRAM (sometimes), RAM (sometimes), Operating System (mostly), HDD space, CPU (some properties may be required, like x86-64 or process extension support, but raw speed doesn't).

Bethesda has stated and precisely Pete Hines that Fallout 4 will be (and should be) playable on min. req. at 1080p low settings and 30 fps, and the rec. req are good for 1080p high settings and 60fps.

So after that, YES Fallout 4 can be played on systems below min. rec. on lower resolutions and detail levels.

As others has stated above some criteria must be met like:

The GPU should be Direct11 capable.

Preferable above 4GB of system ram, for optimal performance without lag and stuttering

The GPU must be a dedicated one.

Bethesda games don't scan your computer then refuse to run if you're under spec. They'll just configure to Very Low default settings. Depending on HOW FAR under spec you are, you can expect low fps and slowdown at the very least (if you don't run mods designed to remove grass, shadows, lighting etc) and hard crashes or corrupt graphics in worse scenarios. The game won't run at all if you're too far under spec ie. on a 486 or something daft - but I'm guessing hardly anyone's that far under spec these days lol.

Ok - so I just want to get this clear. Is there anything I can do to let fallout 4 run? I heard that it is limited by the graphics card, is this what is causing the crashes? I can't get in to the game to look at the horrible graphics cause of crashes. When googled it seems to be a lot of people have (black screen after hitting play). Does anyone have a solution to this with my graphics card?

Unfortunately, if you have an Intel HD, you may and you may not get it work.

If not, i would suggest to look for a different solution.

If you are short of money, a console would be the best idea. PS4 or XBOX One it doesn't matter actually.

Those consoles are small so very much portable, plays everything at 1080p (900p on XBOX One for specific games) and it doesn't cost a fortune!

And last but not least - as a bonus, you will never bothered again with an installation procedure, driver updates, operating system crashes, nasty malware and viruses

and the most important question: Will this game run on my console?

I REALLY don't think that you will be playing Fallout 4 on that machine. You are so far below minimum that, even if you got the game to start, you would be stuck basically with a Slideshow rather than a game. Macs are generally very well built machines that can perform wonders with the hardware they have, but honestly, Fallout 4 is just asking too much from an older 'Air that was never intended to run triple A titles to begin with.

As others have said, it's really all going to depend. If you're above the minimum in most respects but a bit below in something like CPU speed, you'll likely be fine. There are plenty of people playing on systems like that without any real problems. If you're below specs across the board, then likely not. Even if it fires up, it could be completely unplayable.

The system you listed is pretty well below specs, especially with the integrated graphics card. There may be some workarounds for it, but you may simply be unable to get it to work. Good luck
