Major Questions Going Forward

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 4:20 pm

What are your biggest questions you want answered as information continues to be released. My major concerned are with the world size, animation quality and the skill list, what are yours?

Just how exactly is the level scaling going to work? There has to be an reason to be an adventurer and knowing exactly the level of your enemies isn't a very good reason.

World size; extent of worldbuilding and sense of Skyrim as an actual place rather than just a base for looting; scope for the player to do anything other than be a badass warrior. At present looks like we're being channelled into the role of Dovahkiin more than in any other previous role (e.g. loot and powers specific to the role with the 'Dragon language' runes, so even those not following the main quest will still be becoming more convergent in gameplay)

Do I connect my monitor to my graphics card via HDMI (higher quality?) or DVI, having in mind that I don't want to use my monitor' integrated speakers? :D*

Seriously now, my biggest concern is about getting cleared if Attributes are truly off, or that's a hype.

*That's actually a real question that I have in mind right now :)

IT IS GOING TO BE EPIC!

There's no difference, and you won't have to use you monitor speakers either way.
Don't buy the cable in a store for $50 either, get it online and don't pay more than $5-$10.

I think I'll just use DVI then :) No point using HDMI as I won't even touch the S/PDIF connector of the graphics card.

At least I leave behind the crappy anolog VGA.

My current concerns. What will fast travel be like (hopefully not a cheat)? Will there be anything like VATS in combat (hopefully not required for proper play, unlike FO3)?

I'll assume you are using windows 7, have an hdmi cord, a monitor that accepts hdmi, and speakers connected to your computer that you'd rather use. Use your hdmi out on graphics card to send picture to monitor. Then, switch your default playback device using the sound controls in the control panel. You can just use DVI instead. Both are digital signals, so there is zero difference. Also, don't overpay on cords either way. It works or it don't. There is no middle ground.
If that was not a serious question then

I'd like to know if crossbows/spears are in. Enchant has returned, so I hope those will too. Then I want to know about attributes.

@KCat: VATS is a Fallout only feature. Plus, I rarely even used VATS in Fallout 3/NV. I only used it when enemies were all up in my face where I'd actually have better accuracy by letting it do it for me.

Well, talking about future (as I still don't have my new compuer & monitor)...I'll have W7, HDMI card/monitor, HDMI cord and speakers integrated into my monitor that I don't want to use (I prefer headphones). It's basically to know which option is the best to get the best image quality/fidelity.

Other features were assumed to be Fallout-only, too, and are appearing in Skyrim. Granted, VATS was mostly designed for the guns, but if there's locational damage I could see them using something like VATS to better hit your target points (as even I, someone who likes to play FPSs, still had trouble hitting proper target points in FO3 without it). I just worry that locational damage will make pause-aim-attack the "preferred" way of attacking if you want to hit specific body parts.. and if you don't aim for those body parts, it would put you at a worse disadvantage.

I want some information on factions like how many and which ones. Also want some more information on land size. I also want some screenshots, I wasn't all that impressed with the ones released so far. Oh yeah and of course spears.

Horse combat?

Alternate mounts?

Clarification regarding the quote that said there were 85 spells in the game... Does that mean spell effects, spell types, premade spells or what exactly?

Are attributes still in the game, and if so, how have they changed?

Clarification regarding the quote about "five major cities." Does that mean five cities on the scale of the average Oblivion town, or five cities on the scale of the IC?

Not a question, but I'd like to see pictures of every race...

Will the Armor system be overhauled as many posters here are speculating?

What are the 18 skills?

How will mining, crafting, cooking, etc be implemented?

And many more haha...

- How exactly does the new skill system work with the new perk system? Are there "wasted" perks, as in Fallout 3, that just give you skill bonuses? Are there perks that give you bonuses with more specific weapon types than "one-handed" or "two-handed"? Are there a lot of perks that open up new gameplay possibilities or enable new actions? The idea has been raised that perks are going to take up a lot of the slack left by skills in defining your character, and while I approve of such a plan wholeheartedly (perks are just more interesting than skills) I want to know for sure that it's being implemented properly.

- Is Bethesda actually going to deliver on the "radiant stories" concept, or are they going to abandon it like in development like they did Radiant AI?

- Spears, levitation

- Spears, crossbows?
- A transportation system? Making fast travel optional?
- World size?
- Does the engine allow for destructable or flammable environment?
- Horse combat?
- More visuals of the graphics... hard to tell from the screenshots in GI
- "Immersive" first-person view? Like can you see your hands, see your feet when running?
- Most important question: SEASONS?
