Post » Sat Mar 05, 2016 3:16 am

Like;

1) Combat

2) The Explorable areas

3) Companions

4) Better more stable engine

5) Enviroment

Dislike;

1) Dialogue (for many reasons)

2) Too many missed opportunities quest and area -wise

3) Companions

4) Too many shallow quests main and side

5) The perk system

NB: Yes, companions figure in both places. Some things about them I hate, others are well done.

  • Karma system and weapon/armor repair is gone

  • I can actually aim properly without using VATS all the time, more combat, less pacifist

  • Great exploration, interior level designs and Bethesda's sense of humor like a teddy bear, wearing glasses, holding a newspaper while sitting on a toilet

  • Streamlined perks, i.e. Speech and Barter is all combined into Charisma is great

  • Hilarious terminal entries like the drug dealer's clientele list in Sanctuary

Dislikes

  • Underwhelming vaults compared to previous games, 81 is ok and 95 has a great story but cmon, Triggerman and Gunner vaults?

  • No companion options to adjust their behavior and companions following an on-rails route just to catch up to you, shouldn't they be able to jump by now?

  • Little to no challenge during mid-late game, no one should be able to one-shot a deathclaw with a security baton regardless of what level they are

  • No dead body indicator to see where fallen enemies are so you can loot them, lost a few legendaries in huge battles because I couldn't find the corpse

  • NPC's still treating you like crap even after you help them, didn't the Skyrim City Guard Overhaul mod teach Bethesda anything?

- Part of the world design and the level of detail of the enviroments;

- Power Armor system (I'd make it more lore-friendly, tho);

- Mutually exsclusive factions.

Dislike:

- Perk & dialogue system;

- Most of the quest design;

- Most of the writing, except for a couple of good attempts;

- Too many hostiles locations;

- Lack of choices and consequences.

Likes (in order of most loved first):

-Combat Overhaul

-The World

-Ghouls, Radstorms and all things Rad Related! (destroys hearing kkkhhhh! in the distance and a zombie with a static upperbody trying to chase you down for sure!)

-Major Settlement Sizes (Goodneighbour, Bunker Hill and Vault 81).

-Quests mostly being go here and shoot that.

-Lack of a rep system.

-The Levelling System.

Like:

  • Explorability (is that a word?). So much to find, so many nooks and crannies to poke around in. Very well done.

  • Boston! What's not to like?

  • Crafting. I wish it was expanded, however. More recipes please.

  • Sound effects. Very well done -- I didn't really notice them until I turned off the radio.

  • Voiced protagonist. I would have like a few choices, however.

Middle Ground:

  • Settlements. I love the concept, but don't think it was implemented particularly well. With major improvements, however, settlement building would shoot straight up into the LIKE categore=y.

  • Companions. I like the concept of companions, and used them extensively in FO3 and FONV, but don't think the FO4 companions were implemented particularly well.

Dislike:

  • Power Armor. It's incredibly ugly, it's clunky and completely unneccessary. I've completed several run-thoughs without using it, ever.

  • Dialog hints. I like the concept, but too often, the hint doesn't accurately represent what the character will say or the tone with which she'll say it.

  • Lack of opportunity to negotiate. It's all fight, fight, fight.

  • Radiant Quests. Too much repetition and they don't even make sense. Why would raiders in the southeast target a settlement in the northwest when there are opportunities much closer?

  • Too many resources. It's the wastelands. I shouldn't be able to amass 1000s of rounds of ammo or 100s of stimpaks by simply looking around (not buying). Resources should be SCARCE.

  • Pre-defined character background. Too restricting.

  • Ending slides. I'm particularly annoyed that the slides included scenes of

    Spoiler
    my character walking alongside that gawd-awful dog that she NEVER used (and never would).

Sorry -- I many have gone a bit over the 5/5 limit. Oops!

-Exploration and loot collecting, don't know how many hours I put into just playing a man trying to get on by and survive by collecting junk

-Weapons and Armor modification, just wish the outfits were modifiable in some way as well

-Perk Animations, some of them are so fun to watch, others are a little what the hell

-Sound design, I don't listen to the radio, so I just like the ambiance and the moaning of the buildings

-Better NPC dialogue, I guess, I mean it's not great, but better than their previous titles i.e. Skyrim and Fallout 3

[That was actually very hard to figure out the last 3]

Dislikes:

-No feeling that my two characters are different. My characters feel virtually the same and a lot this has to do is with the way the SPECIAL was setup. In the previous titles FNV, you started with 5 SPECIALS in everything, that you could drastically change to one to get more points. In F4, you start out with a baseline of 1 and virtually can be good at anything. Power Armor is a horrible example of this. In previous titles you couldn't just hop into any darn Power Armor you wanted. You needed a specific amount of Strength to step inside. But I feel like the gameplay, where there is strategic choices on how you choose your skills and how you play your game is out the window. Everyone wants a Jack of All trades and don't want to roll muiltiple characters because of lack of time. So, us DND tabletop players are left going, what the hell.

-The inability to express my character. Briefly mentioned this before in previous threads. I am a type of player who designs my own backstories, my own personalities of characters and I like to express this myself. A voice dialogued protagonist essentially limits the personality of my character. I would easily accept a Voice Protagonist if Bethseda took direction of Dragon Age Inquisition or Saints Row 4 or Dragons Dogma. Which is allowing me to choose between some voices and changing the Tone and Pitch to my desired Tone and Pitch.

-Too much fighting. Tired of walking into designated combat zones, where a bajillion enemies are shooting at me all once. Boston is a nightmare to explore, because I find half the time I am just trying to avoid fortified faction areas of super mutants, feral ghouls, and raiders. It doesn't make it fun, just decidability annoying after a while.

-Settlements. Yeah I just said settlements. To me, settlements were a nice touch, but I think they should have been executed in a much different way. Settlements are an excuse to not have well fleshed out cities or other settlements built by NPCs. Settlements provide little to no story. Personally, I think they should have focused more on building more cities, like Goodneighbor, and Diamond City. And these cities, you do favors for citizens and even the mayor of the towns, to earn the right to a workshop and update these cities further. And when I say do favors. I don't mean, "my husband got kidnapped". I mean, like the lady in Megaton who needed to test radioactive effects on a guinea pig. Or the children of Atom like disarming a bomb. Or helping out the town guards with raiders.

-Lack of interesting quest. I have found some, but I have to go hunting for them. And often times they end up much like Skyrim did, go kill something, go bring me something. Or the settlers. *shudders* I built the settlement, but they behave as if any of them did the hardwork. I am running around collecting junk and building them the things they need and behave like they own the place or something. Worse of all, are the Kidnapping or Settlement in danger quest. Boring. And overused. I am saving people more often times than I am doing something cool and interesting with an awesome story. Even the alien ship that crashed should have been executed better than what it was.

Liked:

- How they made Power Armour

- Settlement system (even though it's a bit wobbly)

- Weapon mods and multiple armour parts (with legendaries)

- The way raiders chat to each other, which can be funny

- You can use numbers 9 and 0 now, even - and = (PC that is)

Honorable like mentions:

- Jetpacks

- New survival mode

- Moving lights, like from power armour lamps and mining helmets, which wasn't possible in previous games.

Dislike:

- So called "steamlining" (eg bye skills, even though it was obvious something was gonna get the chop - sigh)

- Distinct lack of weaponry, although this hopefully will be added to with DLC and mods

- Junk Jet and Syringer's damage and usefulness is questionable at best

- Dull, annoying, and stupid companions

- Dialogue wheel. Dafuq Beth, this isn't Mass Effect.

Honorable dislike mentions (5 is not enough!)

- Voiced protagonist (Yeah that's right, dislike. All my vastly different characters will all have the same droning voice. Cheers)

- Moving my character in TP is horrible and sluggish compared to previous games.

- Violence seems to be the only way.
