Does it matter what gun you have Explosive on?

Found an Explosive 10mm. What do you think? Just as good as Pray & Spray or better because it's lighter?

I always worry about using Legendary Explosive Weapons because I fear that the added area damage might hit allies.

For explosive, fire rate is king. The SMG will net you better DPS, but that's still going to be a solid 10mm to keep using.

This is why I don't use explosives while defending my settlements. With the right rank of Inspirational, though, companions won't care.

explosive (like wounding) is best for fast automatic weapons or even better shotguns.

fast auto because you get the explosive bonus more often (which is sometimes alomost equal to the damage of the round fired).

shotgun because the bonus applies to every pellet fired.... so you get it seven times. but make sure not to hit anything near you... or put the mod reducing explosive damage on your chest.

for semi automatic it's not that good.

Thanks. I promise I'll be careful with it....I wont shoot my eye out.

I was thinking my gunslinging perks might make an explosive 10mm better than the P&S but is it all about fire rate with the explosive prefix?

it's even worse if your companion decides to take a step before you right when you pull the trigger of your explosive shotgun.

he will get back on his feet... you won't ;)

Edit:

when i found my first explosive shotgun the first thing i did was firing at a wall right in front of me. I sold it afterwards....

now i'm doing a "shotgun only" run with an explosive and a wounding one... and it's fun ;)

explosive on longer range, wounding on CQB

but since it's a more "tanky" approach i've got the 50% reduction on explosives on my chest...and three times 15% dmg reduction while standing still. this way i take only minor damage if i misfire on a target too close ;)

A fully modded and perked explosive 10mm was my first characters main weapon. It absolutely ruined anything that attacked me. I called it 'Old World Justice' ^_^

Explosive Minigun... Nuff said :)

I'm personally using 10mm Explosive Pistol myself and I love it. One or two bullets deal with most targets (human ones), and You don't need to be super accurate with it :) I wonder if Demolotion Expert affects it?

The explosive damage actually scales with Demolition Expert, not the class of gun it comes on. But if you've got more ranks in Gunslinger than in Commando, it might be best to stick with a semi-auto 10mm. Generally, perks that add more base damage like Freezing, Plasma Infused, and especially Explosive or Wounding are much more useful on automatic weapons, but they're still way useful on any weapon.

I love my explosive minigun. It tears everything apart, including me, when Piper thinks the best idea in the world is stepping out in front of me. Doesn't even matter that I am in X-01 IV with explosive shielding mod, I am gone in the fraction of a second lol (I am doing some 96 damage per shot or something in that ballpark)

I think the explosive perk is better on guns with a lot of spread like shotguns and miniguns. The explosive combat shotgun is OP as hell. You get the same explosive damage from each pellet, so it can cover a bunch of space. You just kind of point it in the general direction and pull the trigger lol
