Themed Content Updates

Post » Sat Mar 05, 2016 6:45 am

When Minecraft gets updates, normally those updates are a mash-up of new content, tweaks to the game, and bug fixes, but they were all themed. Recently they rolled out a massive update, called The Combat Update. This update overhauled the combat mechanics in both good and bad ways (depending on who you talk to, but let's not get into that here shall we?), and added new things to the game, such as a new shield and new arrows.

Now, some are asking what this has to do with Fallout 4. Well, I was thinking that Bethesda could do something similar here. There's a lot of people, myself included, that want more weapons and armors added to the game, and there are some who would like to see that stuff added, but not as paid DLC. So, why not ask Bethesda to consider releasing Themed Content Updates. These updates would be free, and introduce new content to the game, such as quests, weapons, etc.

I personally think this could work, but what do you guys think. Please keep it civil though? Thanks.

New weapons, costumes, and hairs and possibly (radiant) quests?

Well, yeah, sure why not? Totally welcome.

Yes, yes this would be a great thing. Think free Witcher DLCS status, give me some clothes, beards/haircuts, pistols, NPC's. Radiant quests wouldn't be frowned upon IMO just because of the current drought of quests in the game.

I wouldn't count on new items or quest content in the updates, or at least that much - even the new workshop items in 1.4 are vanilla assets repurposed into things we can build. And Fallout 4's business model isn't easy to compare to Minecraft - an indie game that was available to buy and play in its alpha state, officially left beta in 2011, and has had updates trickling in for years since then. Unless they plan something drastically different for Fallout 4 compared to every other game they've done, Fallout 4 will be in the rear-view mirror after a year or two of official support - and Bethesda will move on to their next game.

Their DLC plan certainly seems promising at this point, though. They're advertising a $10 DLC with a small questline and a new feature, a $5 feature add-on with a suite of new workshop items to build, and a $25 story/landmass expansion that we'll get in a shorter amount of time than it took for them just to release Dawnguard for Skyrim. And that's just the first wave.

Right, I totally get that. But here's the thing. We've already seen signs of disappointment and negative criticism, most of it being directed at the Wasteland Workshop DLC from what I can tell. Most people are saying that Wasteland Workshop should have been part of a patch, and not be released as paid DLC. People had similar reactions to the Gun Runner's Arsenal DLC for New Vegas and Hearthfire for Skyrim. So this Themed Content Update suggestion would, hopefully, alleviate some of that criticism. It's a win-win for both sides.

An update example would be, as Headpopper suggested, called the Quest Update. The quest update would add new side quests, new freeform quests, and new Radiant side quests to the main game. Another update suggestion would be the Wasteland Combat Update which adds new weapons, armors, armor mods, weapon mods, new enemies, new enemy types, and new animations for the Sole Survivor. The 1.4 update could, conceivably be looked upon and The Survival Update. It's overhauling the Survival mode and adding new stuff to the game.

I'd love a patch that would go over settlements that would increase the size area, ( ie allow us to use the pond at jamica plains, give us the entire island of sanctuary) allow for a lot more things to scrapped down (the half destoryed houses at sanctuary, coastal cottage etc) and give us access to new settlement creation items and tools (land smoother/leveler would be very welcome)

I wouldn't mind a new settler update. Another 50+ random settler faces so settlers don't spawn looking the same.
