Looking for the most up to date Oblivion visual overhaul mod

Post » Sat Mar 05, 2016 5:20 am

Looking for the most up to date Oblivion visual overhaul mod;I use NMM to install my mods. So I prefer the nexus site. Packages, or a website containing a list *with links* of mods that greatly enhance Oblivions visuals to the max.

My PC specs are as follows:

MSI GTX 970 SCC 4GB

16GB DDR4 RAM

i5 [email protected]

So *hopefully* I will be able to run them to the max.

Start with Oblivion Reloaded. Then you'll want to research which texture replacers you like.

Can you install OBGE Oblivion Reloaded with the NMM? I can't seem to tell reading the files.

Also, Oblivion Reloaded said it required OBSE and MenuQue v16. Can I install these via NMM, and in which order should I install them?

One advice for Oblivion to save you a lot of trouble: Don't use NMM.

Use Wrye Bash. Everything can be installed. It also allows you to create a bashed patch which is essential if you have a load order for anything more than 50 esps.

I understand that people say to do this, but that doesn't help people who don't know how to use that program, and no one seems willing to explain step by step how to do it. I've tried many times to use it and I've completely screwed my game up before doing it. So if you (or anyone else) would be willing to explain it that'd be amazing.

I have Wrye Bash installed. Icon is a weird red Z. I have three files:

Oblivion Reloaded-45749-3-4-2.zip

OBSE0021-37952-0021.zip

MenuQue v16a-32200-16a.zip

I have no idea how to use these files in conjunction with Wrye Bash. I'd hope it's similar to NMM, but it offers absolutely no tips or help, and no buttons have any names on them.

Start by looking at http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/35230/?, then post questions. The pictorial guide is a bit dated but still offers a good step by step introduction to Wrye Bash. Once you get the hang of Wrye Bash, its actually very simple to use. Most Oblivion mods come pre-packaged in BAIN format, so its just a matter of pasting them into your Bash Installers folder and then opening Bash, clicking on the installers tab, right clicking on the mod and clicking install. Some complex mods may require you to check a few options in the pane on the right or running a wizard.

I'd think a video guide of someone installing a few mods with it like they do the Skyrim installers would be really helpful, in all of what you said I still have no idea what it means, where it is, or how to do it.

When I search for Wrye Bash oblivion in Youtube I get quite a list. Have you tried?

The videos I have seen are confusing. Apparently there are multiple uses for Wrye Bash, and each video is different, and I don't know which is the one I want.

Well, the pictorial guide that Turija linked to is very good. Try that.

Point is - you want a big graphical overhaul. Well, some of the mods that fit that description are going to require you to learn Wrye Bash. Your other alternative is to not use those mods.

You could instead use a bunch of texture replacers which NMM should handle fine. And then use an ENB, which you would install manually according to its own directions.

No offense, but that harsh "don't like it? get used to it" attitude is what turns people off from trying new things and modding. No one is willing to lend a simple hand and offer some advice anymore, it's either "you're a pro or GTFO". Sad really. I have expressed multiple times I don't know how to use Wyre Bash, and youtube videos are confusing. I'm not sure what's confusing about that, to be honest.

I don't think Goth is being all that harsh. The information is accurate, and alternatives were presented.

You can choose not to learn Wrye Bash, but you will be limiting your options. Nearly every single complex overhaul that I am aware of requires Wrye Bash in order for it to work. And for very good reasons.

When I first started modding, I avoided Wrye Bash too and tried to manually install everything, which was easy, but an abismal failure. I couldn't get anything more than simple mods to work.

I tried Oblivion Mod Manager for awhile, which was better. But I eventually hit its limitations and tackled Wrye Bash.

There is no doubt that Wrye Bash has a learning curve. Everyone goes through it at some point. I did. But I'm glad I did. And now I can't imagine modding without it. I would also recommend the pictorial guide as well as the included documentation that comes with WB. I refer to it fairly often.

If you decide to try it, it will feel overwhelming initially. That's normal. Just focus on the installers tab and the mods tab and learn how those work.

I would love to learn how to use WB. But how can you learn the program that offers absolutely no support or explanation as to what to do, while each YouTube video titled "how to use WB" literally all say something different bc they're talking about different features? I'm being reasonable here. I've tried.
