Brink Music

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 10:22 am

There is really something missing with music in games. Taking it away from Brink, I finished playing though Undead Nightmare the other day, and there is a part in the game in which you need to ride to the palace in Mexico. On the journey, the game plays a really awesome track (unsure of the name, will edit later) that completely drowns out all other game sounds but is just awesome as you ride through the desert.

I'm not saying that Brink should do this, but after completing the game I looked up the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack and had a listen. I absolutely loved it but I had never noticed the music in the game much (apart from those awesome bass parts). I noticed similar things when I looked up the BFBC2 soundtrack. Apart from a few key parts of the tracks there were parts of the songs that I had never noticed before and the music is totally awesome when played on its own.

What I'm trying to say is that it's a real shame when all the talent that is put into the music of games goes to waste when players can't hear it as it is meant to be played. I am fully aware that this is difficult though, due to the need for players to be able to hear if people need healing or ammo.

**EDIT**
And I think xShadowcat pretty much made my point as I was typing. Curses, foiled again.

**EDIT Mk2.**

Well, Rockstar Games' Games have something special to them, if it comes to music. Most of their games seem to be heavily influenced by the way the GTA series handled it, in that matter.

The music needs to fit the story both http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHAvjaHtlMA and somber, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnXwhcOClbk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBTIoL5vaOM.

Ima gona be honest here, everytime I've seen Gladiator, I cryed at the end. The song and setting are just perfect.

It's a powered floating structure. By definition it is a ship.

Also from my understanding the music will be BC1 intro ish.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it got towed to the ocean, meaning its not powered.

I'm pretty sure no one would want to live on a non-powered island.

I'm pretty sure there aren't many ways to move around a massive "green" artificial island without ditching the whole "green" idea

All facilities on the Ark are powered, but the Ark itself isn't (Like it doesn't have engines, atleast that would make sense)

That's defined as a ship. :) Anyways, we should probably stop stealing this music topic and let it go back on topic.

Sarcasm?

Even if it has engines, it would be dangerous to use them. They would require an immense amount of energy. I don't think the Ark was designed to move around like a ship.

I just mentioned the Ark being a ship so I could make a joke about pirate metal. And even if the Ark had engines, they would be pretty useless now because they don't they don't even know if there is any land or anywhere to go to.

You should also add http://www.eikongraphia.com/images/ThePalmJumeirahCopyrightNakheelS.jpg to that list. Just for the record. Because the ARK is none.

Floating slab of metal called a http://www.theborough.com/pictures/barge.jpg - considered to be a ship. The moment you can tell me the difference between this and the Ark, I will concede.

So they put a ship infront of that ship to ship that ship which is not actually a ship because it can't ship without a ship shipping it?

Ships do get shipped.

http://www.navytimes.com/xml/news/2010/09/ap-navy-iowa-los-angeles-wants-to-host-battleship-092510/092510ap_battleship_iowa_800.JPG

I'm pretty sure this ship is being towed...

I was actually looking for something else which is a very large boat that the wealthy use to transport their boats across the sea. I couldn't find it though.

If I am implying anything it's that Hells march is, in my opinion, one of the best pieces of game soundtracks ever made. Having played ALOT of RA2 the song has huge nostalgia value for me personally, and I often listen to it when playing other, newer games because it reminds me of why I like gaming, and when I got into it. And that's a good thing.

That is what I am implying.
