Going away from mods...

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2016 12:48 pm

So I went crazy with mods shortly after the game came out.

However with the anticipation of Automation I find myself daily uninstalling mods.

Anyone else doing this? I'm practically down to the base game at this point, ended the night with 6 monds still enabled.

For some reason I'm actually pretty content with what Bethesda did with the base game this time.

I did the same thing with Skyrim. I basically modded the game to the point it was a new game. Then slowly chiseled it down over time to bare visual need mods, and I realized I liked the game even more. I think we all get this idea that we need to "fix" the game to some unrealistic level when it first comes out. Over time that's not the case, and it's even a stress off your shoulders because, who here just LOVES installing all those mods and tweaks over and over when wiping your pc?.....

All 30 of my mods are all texture replacers.

Yea, with Skyrim I avoided any mods with esp files unless they are absolutely necessary. Had enough bad experience with the consequences of removing them. I'm not even going to think about touching any Fallout 4 mods with esp files until several months after the Creation Kit releases.

I'm down to all texture replacers. More power armor mods and the one that separates colors and coatings, and durable Vertibird.

lol, I tried 1 mod. just 1 and it never worked. gave up.

I never had reliability issues with FO4 so I never needed to mod for that reason. I enjoy vanilla and will wait for Beth to update and release their goodies!

I generally mod these games, but much later in the process.

I'll start adding mods after the official kit is released and after I feel like they've stopped patching it. The first mod I generally add is the unofficial patch, generally followed by graphic mods just to make things look better. Much later on I'll use mods that add NPC's or quests. Always have to be lore friendly though. I'm kind of a stickler about that.

I'm still running quite a few, but when the new survival mode hits I'm going to start a new character with only a select few mods. I'll just have some graphical and minor aesthetic mods. I always like to do a first play through mostly without mods, and I'm kinda of counting the new survival mode as a new 'first' play through in a sense.

Me! The mod minigame is just as much fun to me as playing the actual game. It feels great to completely wipe your Data folder down to the main files and start over. You can try different environment textures this time, use a different combat overhaul, different beauty mods, theme your whole game up to be more suited for a serial killer playthrough, etc.

Installing mods is fun! Just put some good music on and get to work.

That's highly unnecessary.I just removed them because i didn't feel like continously downloading new versions of a mod everytime the game gets updated.

The thing you better worry about is scripts.Removing scripts will tear your game apart.

I managed an entire playthrough adding and removing esp from nexus's most popular mods without consecuences.

Fallout 4 is surprisingly more stable that skyrim in that regard. It feels like a more sturdy modding platform.

Oh well, I recently installed my 5th one, and as they are settlement, map and dialogue fixers I'll leave em' for now.

But can you actually get rid of all the mods without repairing the game? Not every mod is an esp or esm.

I only do have minor mods such as texture replacers at this point ^^

and I plan on keeping them for the first two DLCs

Far Harbor will make me remove everything though :D

I want to experience it in the same 'visuals' as Beth planned it, without seeing weird Boston-suited textures all over the place on the island, that isn't made for them ^_^

No need to repair the game. The BSAs will remain intact no matter what. The only thing you might ruin is your savefile.

Meshes, textures and scripts from mods are store in new folders in your data section. The base game has no loose files, they are all stored in archives called BSA.
