the looting mechancis are revolutionary

Having some of the buttons used for other actions like reloading or jumping being superseded by the loot window can be annoying. Trying to jump over a corpse inadvertently made me eat it when I wanted to keep aspect of my character secret from my current companion. I don't think you can cancel it either.

This, coupled with the "you need to pick up everything to craft with later" approach also promotes a "tap the button to quickly loot now, check what you got later" playstyle, which is fine 90% of the time, but cause me to do annoying things just when I've gone full autopilot clearing an area of all loot. Among them, accidentally getting caught in a lengthy sitting down animation and accidentally drinking the irradiated water I'm wading in drive me mad. Yes, sitting was a menace in Skyrim as well, but the slower pace actually seemed to prevent me going on autopilot, ignoring the label and mashing activate whenever some word popped up, so my clicks were more deliberate and intended, so I could mostly avoid accidental slow-sitting and stuff like that.

I really thought this was going to be annoying, but it's actually really convenient. Plus if battlefield looting gets stressful, just open the loot box up in a window and essentially pause combat. It just works.

Flipping around with the mouse wheel to pick out the important bits works great. No need to get right into the full on loot menu to pick that 7 gold off a dragur or those 12 5.56 rounds off a raider. Those UI design improvement things that nobody really thinks of the first time is pretty cool.

I actually wonder if there is any Pcgamers nowadays that still have mouses without the wheel.

Didn't Dead Space have something rather similar (although usually only one item per package/corpse)?

I did get used to it pretty fast.. but like an above poster I find myself trying to back out of the menu quite often. It's just a really old habit that seems to have become a reflex action. Every now and then in a crowded space full of crap it can get a little annoying but that's not too often.

I thought I would really dislike the system, but yet again I was proved wrong! Great implementation of the new loot system. I love the way it orders the loot, gold, ammo, stimpaks on the top, annoying gear lower down. Very quick and functional. Now if we could only fix the 3 mile long misc tab.....

this is partially why i would have liked if the system was toggleable in the menu.
