After playing Dying Light and MGS V:TPP, two games that I now feel represent the best of their respective views. Coming back to Bethesda and Fallout 4, is like stepping back in time. I don't know how better to describe it, but gamesas really need to step this up in their next game.
Dying Light is so fun to play as it's first person view is so satisfying; content and genre of the game aside, they really captured a fluid first-person view mode where you can feel the weight of the character, especially when fighting in the game, the strikes brutally connect and you can feel it. It feels like you're really there in that spot instead of just a floating camera with arms.
Same with MGSV: TPP. You can ignore everything else about the game, but they gave weight to the character and it's third-person view is probably the best I've ever experienced because of it. Cover mechanics aside, it's just satisfying playing in that view and the character feels like a real person running around.
Bethesda has always developed their games with first-person as the primary view and then shoehorning third person view in afterwards. I feel if they did it the other way around, both views would be improved. I think more goes into making a solid third-person view than first-person and if they can make that work, first-person would only be better.
Fallout 4 is an improvement over previous titles as far as third-person goes, but this is my biggest gripe I have with Bethesda games; the floating camera view. Melee combat just doesn't feel fluid or satisfying in anyway, anymore. Walking around in first/third-person is so unnatural it takes me out of the experience watching the PC float over the landscape.
Maybe it's an engine limitation and if it is they need to stop tweaking the engine with each game and start anew.
Didn't mean to rant, just went back to F4 after playing those two games and I wanted to vent about it since it never really bothered me before.
