Some random thoughts...
Difficulty:
In every video game I've ever played the game gets harder as you progress - but what if the game could be made to have equal difficulty everywhere?
- For example, make all enemies spawn within a specified range. This could be either explicit (e.g. between 10 and 20) or linked to my level (my level +/- 5, or my level to my level + 10).
- Maybe editable figures for each type of enemy, with a 'default' setting so you can just alter any any you want to be different, e.g. make all Deathclaws lower than the default.
- You could then set all enemies to level 10-15 and walk around with basic leather armor and a pipe rifle, or set them to 80-100 and walk around with ballistic weave, heavy combat armor and a Gauss Rifle.
- I'd like an option to cap my HP at a specified value (around 150-200 seems about right, to me) rather than have it increase forever - which makes you almost immortal, and makes large parts of the map really boring as there's no danger of death.
- I'd also like an option to remove perks, so if you feel one makes you too good you can remove it (Sneak or Ninja, for example).
Randomness:
- Some locations obviously need specific groups to be present when you first go there (e.g. Concord & the Museum of Freedom) but when it respawns maybe occupants could be different.
- In fact, could the map just be (mostly) random? Each time you approach a building/location the number and type inhabitants is different. There are some locations that I find really annoying because they're exactly the same every single time I go there, which means it isn't really a challenge.
- Not sure if it would be possible to alter the external 'furniture' that lets you know who occupies a location, e.g. skull painted barriers for Gunners, blood bags for Super mutants, etc.
- Make everywhere a random event location. Every corner you turn could see you come face-to-face with an enemy, rather than the current situation of knowing you're completely safe in certain places.
- Every open building could have the possibility someone or something in it - then we won't know a building is always safe either.
- Chance that you get attacked when fast travelling, e.g. you get placed in a random location on route to your chosen destination as an attack starts. Likelihood varying by destination / distance. Maybe show the attack likelihood on a scale, e.g. very unlikely, unlikely, maybe, likely, very likely. You can then decide whether to go or not, or whether to slow travel to evade any attacks.
Minor things:
- Harvesting crops should be stealing if you don't own the settlement.
- I'd like the carry weight shown on the bartering screen.
- I'd like carry weight to be shown as a decimal (e.g. 239.7 rather than 240).
- More 'Wanted' boards (like the one in Diamond City) around the Commonwealth, maybe even let us build one in each settlement. Have some actual paying jobs on them (help defend a settlement, kill someone, etc.). Maybe also have posters from settlers looking for a new home.
- Health filled on level-up, I don't like it - I'd prefer if it could be made optional.
- Options for there to be no caps in crates and no cap stashes. I'd prefer it if I had to 'earn' any caps I get. The same goes for guns and armor - the crate near the start of the game that re-spawns every day is annoying - because I can't stop myself from looting it.
DLC Ideas:
More locations.
- New towns to visit, new sites to build settlements, more dungeons to clear / loot, companions to meet etc.
- There are 7 roads and 2 railways going off the map - how great would it be if we could follow them to new places?
- Maybe a faction (existing, or new) could restore an old steam train and run a service from Bedford Station to one or more DLC locations the north of the map.
- The train could have a mini gun (like a Vertibird) that we can use to deal with attacks on the the train - that would be amazing.
New scenario using the same map but set a few months after the 'end' of the current game - so all characters can keep the same appearance.
- Sanctuary is now a thriving town, as big as Diamond City.
- You play a new character, maybe someone from Vault 81 or even, dare I say it, someone who isn't from a vault. Maybe you stumble upon Vault 111 late at night, sleep there, find a Pip-Boy on a skeleton, then as you exit the vault you hear the nearby settlement (Sanctuary) and the game begins as you walk into town.
- No main quest but an infinite number of side quests and open-ended gameplay, e.g. you get a job as:
Gun for hire:
- Self-explanatory, maybe done using the Wanted posters. Defend settlements, clear out locations, rescue kidnapped people etc - but just for the caps, not because you want to own their farm and provide for the occupants 24/7.
Trader:
- Buy a Brahmin, travel from town to town - getting attacked as you travel - selling your goods.
- Bartering is reversed, i.e. people pay you more than the base value and sell goods for less than their base value.
- Need option to either: accept all offers, accept all cash offers, or manually assess each offer. If you just accept all you might get lumbered with things you don't want (even if you can sell them for a profit).
- All towns/farms could have designated imports and exports, e.g. some farms want to buy fertilizer and have crops for sale, others might be livestock farms that sell meat & fertilizer.
- New inventory category labelled 'stock', able to move all inventory items to/from this category as desired. Also have an option to 'take as stock' when you hover over an item, then it goes straight into the stock category.
- Maybe a quest to become allied with Old Man Stockton, which then gives you access to some previously off limits settlements (e.g. Bunker Hill).
- Maybe you can rent a stall for the day at places like Diamond City or Sanctuary. The bigger the settlement the more the rent, but the more customers are availble.
- Maybe you could make your own shipments, but you need to actually deliver them to a customer. Or pay an NPC to deliver them - with cost varying by the danger (which is based on the delivery location and value of the goods).
- If you are attacked on the road, raiders might ask for money - and it might be a legitmate decision to pay them off, e.g. if there are a LOT of them.
- Hire guard(s) for protection, better guards cost more money.
Guard:
- Guard a caravan, danger (and pay) varying by trader, e.g. working for Trashcan Carla would be safer than working for Cricket - because of the locations they visit and value of their stock.
- Guard Blake Abernathy as he takes his Melons to Diamond City (maybe as an early game intro quest).
- Guard a randomly generated character (who advertised on a Wanted poster) from A to B with the danger and pay varing by circumstances, e.g. visiting a friend = safe; Triggermen are after them = dangerous.
- Become a guard at Diamond City, 1 days work for a quantity of caps. Maybe you could decide before the attack whether to take part in the defence, e.g. pack of dogs = 25 caps (yes), gang of Super Mutants = 100 caps (OK), Mirelurk Queen = 500 caps (nope).
Postman:
- Deliver letters/packages to a location for fee. Like being a guard, circumstances could alter the danger (& fee charged), e.g. birthday card = safe (or rather, no more dangerous than usual) but a cache of guns or drugs would make an attack more likely. Maybe also deliver shipments for traders. If fast travel attacks aren't included, the delivery locations would need to be outside of fast travel locations so that there is actual effort involved.
