This has nothing to do with Fallout 4.

Procedural generation is something that fascinates me, but the one thing all of the proc-gen games I've played have in common is that you eventually figure out the patterns to how things generate, and there are very few surprises any more. The game eventually becomes repetitive - think Minecraft, Daggerfall, Terraria, etc. Plus I'm concerned, among all of the amazing stuff they're talking about there doesn't seem to be much talk of actual gameplay. It's a near-infinite universe to explore, and that alone will be compelling, but I wonder just what there is to do in that vast universe.

Don't get me wrong, though, it's definitely a game I'm excited to get my hands on.

It was announced I think at the e3 in 2014, and was really shown off last year in 2015.

I think it will be a good game, if expanded upon could be the next Minecraft. It is a primarily an exploration game from what I can tell, with rpg and adventure elements. Explore as much or as little of each system and planet you visit. The sheer amount of planets is staggering.

To put it into perspective, if 1million players found 10 unique planets a day...it would take 2.7 billion years to explore them all.

Quite a few people have played it for about an hour or two recently...

Here's a vid that talks about it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGXDCV9HiZ4

Looks like there is a very basic survival element (don't go where it's too cold), and there are some game elements which are interesting.

Apparently if you blow up an entire space station or trade fleet you remove it for everyone, which I think is exciting. Feels like it relies on you coming up with your own objectives which might svck.

EDIT: Should point out it even has some RPGish elements according to that vid, where you can learn languages of races indigineous to that galaxy, and make RPG like decisions when talking to NPCs.

It looks kinda bad. I may be running too much resolution.

Still not sure about it. Can't even get a straight answer as to whether it has offline SP or not. If not, I'll pass.

They have said it does. If I find the interview I'll post it but I remember there being something about an offline SP mode.

Looks amazing and unique, but I have a feeling it will get boring REALLY fast.

Because my internet is not quite up to broadband standards yet, I was thinking I was SOL. Not so! Physical disc Blu-Ray saves the day!

It certainly looks interesting. I'll be keeping my eye on it and read a lot of reviews as I have concerns about a gameplay feature I saw in a video of a dev playing it back during last year's E3.

Yep, No Man's Sky's development has held my interest for awhile now. I just hope I can get over the direction of the art style they chose. I don't need great graphics (I play plenty of older games that do not look good visually) but it looks a bit cartoonish and seems to have a lot of pastel colors. Like I said I can deal with older graphics, but certain graphics (like Borderlands) just feel odd (for lack of a better term) and I just have trouble losing myself in games like that. I'll wait for it to be out several months, hopefully by then I'll have watched enough youtube and twitch were they will no longer bother me.

http://reshade.me/ should be able to help a bit there. I'm not too keen on the art style either and have lots of other games on the go so will probably wait until the price drops a fair bit before taking the plunge. Much prefer the more realistic look of Elite: Dangerous anyway but it will be a long time before that gets life forms you can interact with.

It looks interesting but I fail to see the appeal in a multiplayer game where you may never actually meet another player due to the vastness of it.

I'm trying to find another game to play with a friend of mine overseas and just about every MMORPG has been ruled out. Either already tried them or don't look very interesting.
