More base-game Guns, and Visible WeaponsHolsters

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2016 9:19 pm

While customization is fairly decent for Fallout 4, the amount of firearms available is much shorter than previous games, including Fallout 3.

The Chinese Assault Rifle/AK47, or the original assault rifle, or even just the 10mm smg are all missing(and then some more) from the base game. More guns would be a wonderful add-in, especially since finding the same 5 guns over and over is just boring.

I miss the weapons being visible, if for no other reason than the sake of realism-ishness, it also let me know what someone was carrying and if picking a frontal fight with them was going to result in me having my face melted. But it needs to be taken a step further so the weapon isn't just stuck to the character like velcro. Rifles and shotguns need slings, and handguns or similar small arms need some sort of holster that fits them.

The "visible weapons - 3rd person" mod on the Nexus is a good example of what I mean, but I don't feel it should have been something that needed to be modded in.

I hope future updates fix these little issues.

Well the chinese assault rifle wasn't a vanilla weapon in 3, that was introduces with OA. We haven't even seen what we'll get with the first 3 DLC yet so I woulnd't be too critical on what we may be getting. It's easy to compare an older game with all of it's dlc to a new game with none.

I'm in the 'meh' boat when it comes to visible weapons. There were so many ugly clipping issues in 3/NV that just made it look stupid to me. I can only imagine that is compounded with weapon and cloting mods in 4. I can absolutely see why they didn't add it

No, it isn't.

Number of firearms in Fallout 4: 36

Number of firearms in Fallout 3 (without DLCs): 27

And what would be the point of having 10mm pistol with automatic receiver and 10mm SMG? Those are functionally the same guns.

What could a 10mm SMG do that couldn't be handled by the game's .45 Tommy Gun, or better yet, the 10mm Auto Pistol? Same for the Chinese Assault Rifle and the existing Assault Rifle and Combat Rifle - I'd be disappointed if any new guns they added were functionally identical to existing weapons, and only looked different.

Which isn't counting the amount of customization for each weapon, right? In Fallout 3 we only had pistol and rifle options for laser and plasma weapons, before DLC - in Fallout 4 we can customize for sniper, automatic, scattergun, even flamer for the Plasma Gun and Scattered Auto for the Laser/Institute Guns.

The Chinese Assault Rifle is a Vanilla weapon in 3. It was not introduced with OA.

Just for reference, weapons from Fallout 3 that didn't make it to Fallout 4:

.32 Pistol

Chinese Pistol

Dart Gun (does the Syringer count?)

Assault Rifle (that actually looks like an Assault Rifle)

BB Gun

Chinese Assault Rifle

Lincoln's Repeater (the generic Lever-Action Rifle version was added in Point Lookout)

Mesmetron

Knife (kitchen chic)

Lead Pipe

And from DLC:

Drone Cannon

Heavy Incinerator

Alien Atomizer

Alien Disintegrator

Tesla Cannon

Some new assault rifles would be amazing. And not so bulky and heavy looking either.

Also I don't really buy this whole argument about them not being able to holster weapons because of the layered armor system. Why can't they just code the weapon to rest wherever the characters armor ends? I don't know anything about programming mind you lol theres gotta be a way for someone to figure it out where there is limited clipping issues.

Alright, so I'm wrong about the number of guns. Congrats on that.

To answer the why of having so many other guns that could be functionally the same as other weapons? Variety.

I would really like to see some more assault rifle variants, the one they have is pretty ugly in my opinion. I would also like to see more traditional weapons, like revolvers, and lever actions. Lastly, I'd like to see more legendary weapons with unique looks.

And, IMO, I'm not interested in seeing even one of those weapons brought to Fallout 4.

I get that the Assault Rifle doesn't look like a real world rifle, but I have come around to the "It's a Different, Alternate, Fantasy version of our world" viewpoint and don't need every gun, and everything to look like a real world counterpart.

If you do need that in your fantasy game, it's just your luck that this game has a huge Modding community that supports things like that, and if you can't use mods, I suggest you pretend Fallout is like any other video game that doesn't give you everything, but instead gives you what the developers came up with based on what they wanted and what they thought most of the products customers wanted.

i think we could all agree some variation on the base level of weapons would not be at the least undesirable

Well, I'll never stop wanting the Tesla Cannon to make a comeback, and I think there's plenty of room in Fallout 4 for a .44 Lever-Action Rifle - but if I had to choose between any of the other weapons and something completely new, I'd choose the new thing any day. Still surprised the Incinerator didn't make it on as a mod to the Flamer, though.

I feel like they put a lot of emphasis on adding mods to base weapons to make each modded weapons feel unique so that there wouldn't be a need to add more base weapons. To me though, no matter how many different combinations of attachments you add to a weapon, it still has a similar feel to the base weapon it was derived from.

Everyone's always speaking about how they want the Chinese Assault Rifle back, but I want the Chinese Pistol back more. Well, a deadlier version of it, but still.

There's a lot you could do by playing around with the accuracy, rate of fire, recoil, magazine capacity and weight.

But I'm mostly in the "quantity has a quality all its own" -camp.

Sorry... But a plasma thrower and a plasma sniper have a similar feel to you? In any way, shape, form, image or action? That's news to me... seeing as I run around with one of each and use them in completely different ways, in different situations. Literally the only similarity they share is the ammo type. And then there are Legendary variants, and of course you want to mod your basic Wounding Plasma Gun in a completely different way than your Instigating Plasma Gun... I don't see why we should need more guns. We certainly don't need them.

i'm hoping i can get console mods to make my weapons look like real ones.

i don't really care if my weapons magically stick to my back or leg when not in use, or if they just aren't visible.

I'd rather they add more unconventional weapons... Like the manopener/autoaxe from The Pitt. Love those kind of weapons. I wouldn't say no to more conventional weapons though. Really wish they kept the spear gun in.
