What is Your Favorite Faction Ending to Play?

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2016 5:29 pm

This isn't necessarily asking what your favorite faction in general is, but rather which Faction's quest-line ending did you enjoy playing the most? For me it is the Brotherhood of Steel ending even though they are far from my favorite faction overall. I suppose part of it for me is the nostalgia of taking another battle walk with Liberty Prime, and the direct assault on the CIT alongside a fully equipped BoS army was a fun, action packed experience.

The Institute ending would come in a close second for me, but if I had to choose one ending that I'd like to pick up and play again, it'd be the BoS.

The Minuteman ending is the only one I've ever played, and barring mods that can allow you to finish another faction without destroying a non-Institute faction, probably the only one I'll ever play.

At least this time I have an ending I can do. I never finished New Vegas at all because there was no acceptable path forward. :)

With purpose, with promise, with hope of a better tomorrow, underground. Humanity redefined.

The Institute babe, woot.

I never finished New Vegas either - somehow murdering House just felt wrong, but at the same time finishing his ending felt a bit disappointing for the NCR and the Mojave in general. Perhaps if someone else killed him or if he died of natural causes due to you not being there to protect him it wouldn't have felt that bad.

Fallout 4 is similar, though - the Minutemen path of most-surviving factions looks best, but the Institute is such a beautiful place, and populated quite a number of decent people with their own dreams and ideals. They are rather bigoted and inward-looking, but building bridges rather than wiping them out should have been the thing to aim for. I'm not sure I can bring myself to betray all of them when I run out of things to do. somehow, in my head, I get the sinking feeling that it is, in fact, the Institute ending which will make me sleep the best out of the four, unacceptable as it is.

Institute has the means, the workforce, the goal, the ability, the technology to rebuild the world and save humanity, in fact, they did in their ending. You could even give synth rights and allow them to coexist with surfacers.

I have played all the endings. Minuteman, Railroad, and BOS all end up with the same ultimate results, although they take different paths to get there. As anyone who has been in the game for a while will understand, only the Institute ending is much different than the others. I found it hard to really like any of the factions.

1. Minutemen - Preston is a nice guy. Well intentioned. But he other than uniting the Commonwealths fighters he really has no plan for what to do later.

2. Railroad - Their synth (3rd generation only) sympathy seems well placed, but Desdemona is an unsympathetic ***** who doesn't deserve to lead anybody, and Tinker Tom is not very likable either, although he has some neat weapons/armor to offer. I did like Deacon as a companion, and Gloria is cool, but overall the Railroad left me cold.

3. BOS - Elder Maxson is an ******* of the first order. Their single minded synth hating philosophy turned me off right away, although their ending to me, proved the most interesting to pursue, mainly due to the unexpected Danse adventure and Liberty Prime. And you will find there is some dissension among the ranks that I wonder might be fodder for an expansion pack follow up.

4. The Institute - at first, without spoiling too much, this seems the easiest to pursue, but eventually their true colors come out. It's difficult to go against them, of course, after finding out about your son, but that's one of the choices you have to face.

Ultimately, the ending I was hoping to pursue was not offered. Take the Railroad's 3rd gen synth right to life philosophy, combine it with the Institute's advanced technology on how to live underground radiation free, and meld that with the minutemen's policing of the new world, and maybe, just maybe, you have a new society with human rights and decency prevailing. Ah well.......

I had the most fun playing through the BOS questline, and would prefer to play it every time, but my favorite ending (three factions happily coexisting and Danse happily following my character) comes from doing the Minutemen questline, which I find kind of boring, unfortunately.

The ending would be too happy and it would override the other endings. The ending choices are the way they are because there are good and bad things with each of the ending. By making the "best" ending, there would be less of the reasons to choose the other ending. The Minutemen is being viewed as the "best" ending simply because it leaves the most factions alive.
