1.4 - settlement havoc

Post » Fri Mar 11, 2016 11:27 pm

Since the 1.4 beta, half of my settlements are constantly losing morale/happiness from 80+ down to 40.

My Pip-Boy tells me they lack beds, defenses etc. and are probably one step from rebellion.

This has been a rare and random occurrence previously, only affecting two settlements, but it could always be resolved by visiting the settlement in question and going into workshop mode for a few seconds. The numbers would correct themselves and all would be well in the Commonwealth again. It's a familiar bug, but at least it used to be easily resolved.

No longer.

When I'm on site, it's easy to check that the settlers don't lack for purpose, resources or defenses, they're just miserable anyway. I've taken to leading each of these supposedly grown advlts to bed to make sure the bed count and the number of actually rested settlers add up. This sometimes boosts morale by 6-10 points, but they are lost as soon as I leave.

When I return, those beds are unassigned.

While it would seem likely that this depression epidemic is responsible for many of my supply lines failing, this isn't really the case. The provisioners turn up where they should, they simply don't connect the workshops. Maybe they're performing some work-to-rule strike action.

Tired jokes aside, my settlements are shot to hell on three characters and this coincides perfectly with the 1.4 update. The game is pretty much unplayable since it no longer adheres to its own rules.

I don't know what to do, I've had it and I'm going to bed.

Same here. PipBoy settlement stats gone awry have always been a problem for me with a couple of settlements (especially Sanctuary), but it is much, much worse with 1.4. Now, I'm getting erroneous numbers for every settlement all the time. Visiting the settlement and entering workshop mode corrects the numbers, but only while I'm on-site. Leave the settlement, numbers are off again. I posted on this when the forum had a topic open for the beta, but I guess it isn't a priority for the devs. I honestly do not understand why this hasn't been fixed. How hard is it to count beds?

Same here, the drop in morale is particularly frustrating - worst yet was from 94 to 41 !!!!!

94 was the highest I'd ever got to - a drop of over 50 is ludicrous.

You're even worse off than I, then. Somebody (I wish I could remember whom) posted a video link showing how settlers lost their bed assignments and didn't count as happy/content/whatever.

That only applied to maybe 2/5 of the beds in a specific settlement, however. Despite the nonsense of the AI not having the sense to eat and sleep, numbers in the 40 range means they're actively unhappy, doesn't it?

Even if they all got mauled by a herd of Deathclaws, I'd assume it defaulted to 50 while I repaired things.

Yes, I'm sure it was traumatic, that's why I've built a clinic.

I wish I could make some sense of this. With all the hours I've taken to provide for the settlers (when not taking launcher shots to the face) it's a bit disheartening to see exclamation marks and zeroes everywhere.

As you can tell, I'm trying to keep an 'immersive' outlook on this, but the fact of the matter seems simply to be that the game broke again.
