Why do FO4 Deathclaws have Perception of 1?

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2016 9:35 pm

fallout enemies have incredible difficulty ranges..

-> predators like deathclaw have indeed 0 eyesight indeed.

-> super mutant lords in endgame have more hp than behemoth it feels like? behemoth literally a walking house why does it not have 3x more hp than the other stuff? o.O

-> legendary mister gutsy have so much dps, i wonder if they and legendary assaultrons aren't the OP's thing around.

Uhh dunno.

I found one alpha deathclaw when I left southeast of The Slog, I left and then made sure I was pretty faraway and in cover and fired at it with a sniper rifle. It spotted
me right away and started to make a beeline to tear me apart. One bullet. I ended up running back to the slog and then all of the slog came out to fight the deathclaw.
Tearing it apart instantly. lol All that focusfire was just plain immobilizing it from charging further.

I usually spot deathclaws from faraway and so I avoid them typically. That encounter with alpha deathclaw was once in a blue moon thing because it was blocking the path I
needed to make and I didn't feel like taking a detour.

I have succeeded in bringing down an legendary deathclaw. I was dumb lucky though. Managed to keep my cool and kited it through terrain abuse. My hands was sweating like
there were no tomorrow. Cuz I forgot to save.

Really?

Do so many people have problems with these Deathskull Radscorpions?

They're maybe dangerous if you don't have a good weapon and armour, but if you do (by the time you meet them, you sure as heck should), they aren't a problem.

Vampiric Bloodbugs and Stingwing Chasers are the worst though. That poison damage takes one third of my health per hit. Seriously bad news.

And don't get me wrong, Charred Feral Ghouls can kill me in 2 - 3 hits, but they're pretty easy to kill, unlike the hyper-venomous bugs.

Just remembered. I did run into a small pack of deathclaws, three of them while I was fighting a small group of raiders, 8+ of them. Fallout New Vegas. I was like lvl 6+,
I ran onto the top of small shack and fired off my Grenade launcher like the world was ending. All the raiders died because they was too stupid to stop fighting me and
get onto the shack with me to survive to see tomorrow.

Low levels could always kill deathclaws, its just, not that easy to do.

About that deathclaw you fight at beginning of the game. I died like eight times to them as I learned how to fight them in fallout 4 and getting used to different fallout 4
's control system. They kinda behaved differently.

And calling it easy encounter is bit unfair because you got power armor + minigun to use. Power armor is tough enough to keep you from being killed in one hit at low lvl.

Well, they are a huge threat in the rare instance that I'm out of my Power Armor, which makes most enemies a joke anyways. :)

i, personally, find PA more of a hinderance than helpful.

in my current run i let Preston wait for a looooong time in the museum... so i only had to jump into the PA to trigger the quest and immediately got out of it again. ;)

grabbed the minigun to sell it and finished everything with the shotgun *g*

It's the roar. Before, they would just go straight to murder. Now you have time to change guns, drop a bottle cap mine, or run away or climb up somewhere because they stop to roar.

How so? My PA provides a higher sprint speed, DR, and vertical mobility via jetpack, plus with Scrounger and Nuclear Physicist I never run out of fuel.

The only downside is can think of is the swimming thing, but there isn't really anything down there anyways.

I like the legendary effects on my armor.

in my previous vats build i had 4x VATS enhanced, 2x Powered. 12 VATS shots with a full sniper modded guardian is nice.

in my current non VATS/shotgun run i have 50% explosive reduction, 4x 15% damage reduction when standing still, 15% against humans and supermutants... add two times ballistic weave MK5 on top and tell me if a PA can deliver this ;)

i can shoot my explosive shotgun against a wall right before me and take about 20% damage...

i really tried to make PA work for me on my 120 char... it always felt inferior and bulky

Well, I'm holding off on Nuclear Physicist simply because my INT is 6 and I'd need 6(?) Perks to max it out and by doing so, I'll reduce the impact of my Idiot Savant Perk.

Also, Deathskulls are easy for me regardless of PA or not. I think I've only been poisoned by one once. Vampiric Bloodbugs and Stingwing Chasers in the Glowing Sea are significantly more dangerous though. I tend to keep a brisk pace in the Glowing Sea, so when me and Strong stumbled into a pack of Vampirics, he went down in 2 hits and I nearly died running away.

Most of this game is very easy, so when I nearly die, I deem it to be significant, and those Vampirics are most certainly noteworthy in that regard.

Actually my X-01 is just like that at Mk V, plus I have the jetpack, tesla knuckles, a AoE ground slam attack, and an enemy marking system for easy sniping. Doest have the increased damage, but I don't mind really.

It is a shame that there is very little legendary PA parts, as I feel like there is wasted potential there.

But hey, play how you like, I'm not trying to start an arguement about PA superiority or anything, and I actually used to never use PA. :)

Everywhere I look in FO4Edit, deathclaws have just one SPECIAL with a value, and that is Perception which is at 10.

There are 'ambush' deathclaws that are set to unaggressive. Unaggressive actors might ignore you even if you're a faction enemy (at least in previous games that was the case). It looks like the 'ambush' deathclaws have a script on them and one of the properties is aggression, so I assume something triggers the script to change the AI to very aggressive when the ambush fires off.

I've never found this to be true. I never sneak in the Glowing Sea. In fact, I pretty much exclusively stomp around in a giant suit of advanced power armor. And yet I get the jump on the vast majority of deathclaws I come across.

they need to be scripted better

- remove roar

- if deathclaw can't reach PC - then activate stealth and hide

- if stealthed - attack from behind

The roar can stay as long as they are not acting stealthy, as long as they roar WHILE charging. Right now it's like "FEAR THE ALMIGHTY DE- ow stop shooting me!"

I've fought four, all while wearing Power Armour. I love the spectacle of a Deathclaw attack but they're not quite as dangerous as they should be. I think they should keep the roar and grand entrance, cos it immediately panics me and gets the adrenaline going. Maybe beef up their attack or give it a chance to bypass Power Armour with that grab attack and pull you right out.

The first one I encountered (outside of the Museum one) was the Legendary Alpha Deathclaw at the Robotics Pioneer Park. I just so happened to turn on the Protectrons beforehand so they could do a sweep for any hiding ghouls, and the Deathclaw jumped out from a house. I was surprised at how easily the Protectrons surrounded it and lit it up, but it was a cool experience.

This is an amazing claim. Who knows maybe one persons survival mode experience is different than another. Me personally, never invested in sneak and never died by a "suprise attack" or for that matter even a first iniated attack. So far I have only been killed by a deathclaw that I first shot at. This of course does not count the museum which did get me first.

Assaultron Dominators start appearing at higher levels. If you do just the main quest and only a few side quests, you will never see them because you will be at endgame before you have leveled high enough.
