Grinding Companion Rep

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2016 5:14 pm

So, people say the best way to get Combat Medic is to shoot Dogmeat and heal him. That's not something I'm comfortable with.

I've read the Wiki, but I'm started to get frustrated that I can't seem to find a comprehensive list of companions likes/dislikes and how much each action adds or subtracts from current companion rep (example being Preston gaining 15 rep when attaching a Mod to a weapon, though when I grinded it, it sure felt like it was 10 because it took AGES).

Anyway, I've done Preston, Codswallop and McCready. Any advice for the rest?

Also, I'm really not happy with giving Curie a body either. I agree with Glory on the matter and it's very irritating that I have to do it to get the Perk. There should just be a branching path to completion thing instead, much like how it worked in NEW VEGAS (a game that handled these issues better).

Well for strong eating people everywhere I found them got the job done quick. And Cait if you fast travel back and forth between say good neighbor and bunker hill completely naked she'll like that. For everybody else I just shot the [censored] outta dogmeat so I dunno. Could try just wandering around with them exploring for awhile?

I am using this guide: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-11-10-fallout-4-companions-romance-and-perks-4019 which I find very comprehensive. There is a cooldown between the actions. Let's say you will rise the affinity of Piper: You cannot just unlock mulitple safes or doors, but you have to wait a specific time in between. Maybe that was the reason it took ages for you to rise Prestons affinity

By the way: You can quicksave and immediately quickload to reset the cooldown timer!

The affinity change according to the reaction you will find here: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Affinity

For example: Preston liked it = +15, Preston loved it = +35 and so on...

-evilfranky

PS: I would never hurt Dogmeat for rising someone's affinity - ever :sadvaultboy:

Thank you for the links.

I guess I'll go to that unmarked Bank with Piper then and I'll do the quicksave trick with the safes.

Nick Valentine should be easy and really hope I can ditch those Eddie Winter tapes afterwards.

Cait will probably be done with the "naked" trick.

Strong doesn't matter too much as I'll just take him on random killing sprees through the Glowing Sea or go to murder some "giant" enemies (I know where I can find several).

Deacon is pretty important, but still kind of a pain to grind.

Danse will be very worrying as I'll need to cosy up to the Brotherhood of Bigotry for it.

No idea about the Institute guy.

Curie will be one of the worst, as I'll have to talk Glory round, and I like the Railroad. I don't even like Curie either.

Piper is the typical good fella. Just do good stuff and do lockpick.

Valentine doesn't like lockpicking. But I think he likes successful hacks if I'm not wrong.

Hancock likes it if you use chems.

Danse likes Power Armor and upgrading your equipments.

Strong probably will be the longest one or so I feel. But just keep killing and help people if you don't want to use Cannibal perk. I don't have it too.

I don't have X6. He was hostile to me.

Yeah, I ain't going cannibal or doing Chems to increase rep. Besides, I think I've done at least one or two of Hancock's conversations already and I only had him follow me around for a couple of hours. I bet those Minuteman radiant quests would give good rep gains to any good companion and I can sprint across the whole map in about 10 mins, so doing those shouldn't be difficult.

Kinda not surprised about Danse liking Power Armour. What a dullard. That guy is such a square it's hard to take him seriously.

For MacCready:

Spoiler

doing the quest with him where you have to clear the three warehouses (Goodneighbor).

lots of stuff to steal, he likes that.

steal -> quicksave -> load -> repeat.

aside from his own quests, he'll love you before the quest is done ;)

NV handled these situations better?, the game has consequences, it makes you make tough choices, if you want the perk you have to do her quest and shooting dogmeat isn't that big a deal, use a shotgun and heal him, it only takes about 15 minutes and currie will talk to you after that about getting a body, she's much better with a body anyway.

X6 88 likes when you open locked things. By doing missions for MM ("Elvis" Preston) everyone likes when you help peoples unless Cait. Strong do not like when you loot and open locked things, so this one is tricky. You should gather most of the companions when you have still MM misc quest help settlements. Cait is easy, do not do MM quests, but rather steal or lockpick owned things.

Cheers,

Curie's perk is worthless unless you plan on keeping her as a companion.

Also on this page: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_4_companions you can find a good list of things they like, quests they like, etc.

Does picking a neutral lock or hacking a terminal make some companions dislike you? Or is it just owned/red locks that makes them dislike you?

Because New Vegas gives you a perk either way, which Fallout 4 does not.

I don't want to give this robot another person's body. I don't even like Curie, and then I have to give her the body or I can't get her Perk? What kind of nonsense is that?

I maxed out all my companions that are still alive.

Strong, Curie, Cait, the newspaper chick, Paladin Danse (before he died), Codsworth, Macready, Nick Valentine, Preston, and X1-66. They all just maxed out. It didn't seem to need any special work.

Strong was easy for me, I don't have cannibal. I am a Sniper/Stealth build, he just seemed to love those brutal 1 shot kills. I guess a Iron Fist or Slugger perk build would achieve the same thing, probably faster.

Curie just likes if you do nice things, travel with her. My charm is 10 , I don't have lady killer. I just took the romance, nice options with her and she ends up giving her perk easy.

I just get confused when they don't have a companion quest. After Cait and Macready gave me theirs I was trying to get them with everyone, and I think Only Curie really did one after that. Although I lost Danse, and Deacon to Faction choices. Poor Hancock got in the hit by a grenade when he was down, and I saved before I realized he was dead. So I didn't get to max his thing. If your play a "good" character Danse is super easy to max. I don't do the homosixual love quest, but you seemed to have to fight Danse off with a stick if your a male character :sadvaultboy:.

They all just seem to max when you travel/quest with them, as long as you just ignore doing the things they hate. And of course do what you see them like.

the easiest way for someone who is into settlement building, just have a companion with you whilst building...your relationship with them automatically goes up over time apparently while doing this.

i've reached max with all companions this way other than the companion quest lines as i've spent tons of time in build mode.

didn't use strong or codsworth at all in battle, and only used maccready and nick when doing their quest lines, just had them as i built my settlements.

Plundersomepink has a strong point there. I just leveled up with my companions and they all maxed easy enough. I built up all my settlements (not pretty but I tried without knowing any collision fixes). That was probably a huge part of why capping all of my relationships with companions was so easy.

Some liked when I got in of my power armor. Some liked when I was modding/cooking/building. I just didn't think it was a huge help. Apparently it was much more help than I realized. Also several seemed to like that we just happened to be ready to defend settlements when the messages came to defend, because weren't doing much but fixing the settlement and that's one of the few times it's hard to miss that message. So Plundersomepink's settlement building idea seems to be why my maxing companions relationships was pretty easy.

Most of the companion perks are really not worth getting.

I didn't know he could have eyewear. I'm getting him some mirrored shades next time I log in.

Well I looked him square in the eyes every time I shot him in the face so....yeah for me its not a big deal. :D And I shot him in the face a lot. Like I put more rounds in his skull than a poorly perked level 20 would put in a mirelurk queen on survival difficulty with a pipe pistol. I could have built a statue with all the shell casings I had from shooting him. Best part is he's no worse off and loves me all the same. Real champ dogmeat is.

For some of them, switching a PA or weapon mod, quicksaving or reloading does the trick. For others, finding a safe next to a terminal to exploit the pick/lock/pick trick works.
