Poison Resistance : How Good Is It?

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 12:43 am

So, the Legendary Armour effect gives +25 Poison Res, but what does that even mean? Say a Level 78 Vampiric Bloodbug has just given you a nibble. How noticeable is that +25 going to be?

Is it just 25 less HP damage? Is it some really complicated equation that most people really cannot be bothered trying to figure out? Would I need a full set of 5 or 6 items for it to be any kind of decent?

All good questions imo. Someone must know the answers!

Resistance scales, if the poison does 25 dpt that 25 defense cuts it in half, if it is 5 dpt, that cuts it down by 80%

Only some legendary mutations deal more than 25 per tic, so in general it is at least halving damage taken,

Except rad scorpions, Deathskulls get up to 45 damage poison, which is cut by around a third, and legendries can be much higher.

I run it on every piece since it is the biggest killer in the game.

I really don't bother with it that much. It is only in the beginning (like almost everything else) it is dangerous. Just invest in killing the svckers better, and you only take a minimum or none damage. Only place where there is large concentration of RadScorpions is in the Glowing Sea, and I would imagine most people when going there, either are PA suited up or have Weave. They are at least low to mid thirties in level probably higher, which means they have some health pool, and at that level they also have the perks to back it up (I hope) If people go there with skulls everywhere, I'd say they had it coming :D

I am sure poison will be a much greater concern with the Survival mode overhaul - As it is poison has never been a concern of mine.

You guys are crazy, on the current survival at level 50, a swarm of bugs can drain you in 10 secs with no resistance and these aren't even legendary.

Not at all. I kill'em before they ever reach me. Only a couple of places, where they are in confined space. Targeting HUD can pick them out as long as I can view, allowing me to to snipe them before they ever knew I was there. If one or two manages to get close, it is nothing VATS or a fast weapon can't take care of.

If you tend to get swarmed, I'd say it is because you are a bit careless, no offense. Jet + VATS can be a big help in those situations.

Well, playing on the current version of survival mode, poison resistance is certainly REALLY helpful in dealing with a certain mirelurk queen on lower levels, especially when Preston won't talk about anything else until you've finally done it...

However, on higher levels it somewhat stopped being a concern for my characters, since their healthpool was just too high to actually be affected by that poison in a serious way.

By that same token, shouldn't Rad Resistant be an underrated perk? Very little environmental radiation damage goes above 30, or even 10 - ranks in Rad Resistance should more than halve the majority of radiation damage you take, with the exception of Gamma Gun blasts and some radiation traps.

Aye environment rads need to be doubled. Rads are almost nothing in this game.

I think it works out great, actually - I don't want to get severe radiation sickness every time I step into a puddle or get hit by a ghoul, but it adds up. And you can't survive more than three minutes in the Glowing Sea without any protection. And I don't seem to be collecting tons of RadAway, although it helps that the Refreshing Beverage isn't an instant cure for rads in Survival Mode.

I have so much radaway and rad-x I keep dropping them into a barrel to see if I can hit 3 digits.

I said without any protection. The Glowing Sea is always minimum 10 radiation damage no matter where you are, which is 1% of your max HP per second - just one rank of Rad Resistant (+10 Rad Resistance) will halve that, and he's got 40. Don't know where he got 40, though, since Rad Resistant caps at 30 iirc.

But that is the point, the Glowing Sea should be impenetrable without the best anti rad equipment. You can't just pop a pill and go for a walk into ground zero.

I should be under stress of making it through alive with a full setup of gear with no perks. This is where the original point you made about the rad perks becoming a fairly good pick.
