Why is no one talking about the best part of the update?!

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 2:53 am

You know what the best part of the patch is? The fact that the game now keeps track of how many bullets I have left in each gun!

I was initially shocked and dismayed, and then indescribably delighted, when I switched to my go-to Combat Rifle and found that I had no bullets in the gun - the same as when I last put it away! It makes me so happy that I no longer need to simply switch weapons to avoid the reloading animation!

It would be a big update. If people were not so tired from waiting for both the survival update and dlc. As it stands, I am hard put to get the exact parallel down.

The closest thing that comes to mind is showing up to an episode of Oprah, and getting a case of beer. At the same time your told the next audience gets a car. All of a sudden that beer doesn't taste as good. -- Yes I am aware that example fails, because at some point we all get the car. But right now I am just looking at some flat beer.

Yeah, that is a pretty neat feature. Now if only they'd take away reloading in the middle of a clip. It's amazing how much I tap on the reload button.. it's kind of a fidgity thing I've become accustomed to doing because of game mechanics.. In real life I'd just be throwing away half full clips of ammo.

In real life, you wouldn't be carrying 18 million bullets either, and you couldn't just jab yourself with a Stimpak and recover from a rocket blast to the face (or just sleep it off in an hour).

You know, real life is overrated when it comes to gameplay mechanics.

Yeah, I've noticed a lot more reload animation as well. It actually seems to take a bit longer than I remember. I wonder if they slowed it down a bit.

Maybe to make the Perk worth taking?

I've not taken it yet because I reload fast enough (pre 1.4) as it is. Haven't played much since the patch hit though,

Be fair, there's NO video game (to my very best knowledge) that doesn't do this. It even has a nickname, "topping off the mag".

Spoiler
Adam Lanza, the shooter at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, was said in some reports to have switched magazines halfway through in this style, thus adding fuel to the fire for those who want to blame games for violent behavior.

I suspect the real issue is that it would add incredible amounts of complexity for the game engine to track how much ammo you have in your current mag, how much you have total, and then how much you have in each of your magazines as well; especially in a multiplayer like Destiny or Call of Duty. Add to this that it would have to track how many mags you have for each weapon as well, and (in Fallout) take account of mags for multiple weapons of the same caliber... I'm sure it could be done, but how many players want that level of realism?

That the settlement alert system actually freaking works better than ever. It's so nice to see "Somerville Place has successfully defended itself." without me having to rush over and help out. With a freaking defense rating of 140, it goram well better be able to defend itself.

The ammo count is okay, but the reality is I constantly reload my weapons anyway, even if I just fire off a shot. The only weapon that I usually don't reload before lowering it is my sniper rifle, and that's because I'm usually fast-switching between weapons.

There are a bunch of video games that do that, ARMA, SWAT4, the Rainbow Six games etc.

I have the perk btw, still seems to do the animation twice. that's the problem. Not 100% sure thought. Just looks like it registers as out of ammo while its reloading and I hit vats. So vats is maybe still seeing the weapon as empty and wants to add a reload ap cost/animation. Ill double check if the cost is there but usually vats for oh crap moments when those damn bloodbugs are all over my butt lol.

Maybe you're entering VATS before the reload animation is 100% complete, and it resets/restarts when you hit VATS?

that's true, and is there a single video game out there that actually throws away ammo if you switch clips half way??

Well, not throwing away but Arma 3 keeps track of your magazine status and doesn't magically merge them into full ones.

Yeah, several Rainbow Six games afaik.

I know I've seen it in a few games, but I've NEVER seen a game that keeps track of half-empty mags! They either top off the mag (very basic, like Fallout) or you lose the mag.
