the update made my d3d9.dll file not work

Post » Mon Jul 05, 2010 4:57 am

my last post got too lengthy, i simply just want to know if this happened to anybody else. I used the d3d9.dll fix wednesday and it worked fantastically (not perfect) but the game was actually very playable so i was happy. thursday steam automatically updated new vegas and now the game runs absolutely horrible again. even when i delete the d3d9.dll file the new update didnt seem to do any thing. and now the d3d9.dll file doesnt improve performance either. very very frustrating. happen to anyone else?

It didn't happen with me, yet and I just placed it there a second ago. Would you like me to test it on my game to see if it works?

I'll gladly do it. I'll let you know if it works. If it doesn't, then it'll be a sad day for both of us. I'm already irritated that I'm crashing after trading with a merchant. I'm sure my luck will only get worse, eh? Lol.

Okay, here are the results. I can't give FPS estimations, but I'll let you know this. I do seem to be seeing some performance increases in many areas. While, yes, I do lag like normal ...somehow, it seems I'm not as plagued as I once was. That and I think my INI tweaks helped this in that regard as well. However, it could be my mind playing with me. I indeed threw the DLL in the directory in hoping that it'd speed up in most places ...either it has, or it hasn't, but I will say that some of my game is faster....it seems. I can't guarantee that this did it or not. Hope this result is good enough for you, my good sir.

Anytime, dude. :) And of course, anything for the community. Hopefully a few patches will take care of those issues for you. And to be honest, I can feel that New Vegas is more optimized than Fallout 3. This is just from what I experienced so far by default. Sure, I may get a bit of lag (sometimes lots, mainly being around fires or huge dust clouds), but I think this file made it more smooth and bearable being around them. I do still get a tad bit of a performance drop around those areas, but not as extreme as before. I still don't know if the d3d9.dll file was the culprit for this, or if my recent discovery of new NVidia drivers did the trick, along with forcing triple buffering.

Soon I'm getting an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro in the mail from a friend and 2 sticks of RAM - 1 GB each (that'd increase my overall RAM to about 3GB, so my performance may drastically change and I'll have to take out the d3d9.dll if I don't want weird issues. My main FPS drops are because my card doesn't quite meet the requirements, but I somehow get smooth framerates in large open areas depending on what's there. All my fade-ins are low. My textures are medium. And I have bloom on. I dread seeing responses about my system if I post my crappy specs at the moment. Rofl.I'm just glad I can run the game with, at the very least, a decent texture size setting. I can't wait to see if I can run this svcker on higher settings.
