*SPOILERS* Getting banished.. *SPOILERS*

Post » Fri Mar 18, 2016 1:59 pm

I'm trying to get the secret good ending ( Both BOS and Railroad survive, allied with minutemen, and institute is gone), however I hit a snag.

According to this video "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUFEeYdQnVc", step 3 has me getting banished either before or immediately after " Institutionalized". The issue is, the actual quest doesn't show up. Regardless if I kill "Father" or some other named scientist. All that happens is the "Institutionalized" quest goes from "meet the dept heads" to "exit the institute". When I go to the relay I get immediately teleported, "Institutionalized" completes and form ranks starts. "Banished from the institute" doesn't show up.

From what I've seen, the banished quest should show up and show a marker on the emergency teleport button. When it's pressed and you wait in the relay room, a countdown starts. In the middle of said countdown, either father or random scientist scolds you over the intercom. You then get teleported out and complete the banished quest.

Did they change this, or is this a bug?

Its not a secret ending as such, its quite easy though you have to careful not to progress certain quests beyond a point:

Spoiler

Play the main quest normally ignoring the RR + BOS and just follow Mama Murphy's clues to visit DIamond City and look for the heart, that will set you on the path to kill Kellogg and watch the BOS arrive. Now do this:

1) BOS: Complete only the initial cambridge police station mission, decline to join and ignore the BOS from here on in.

2) RR: Complete enough initial missions to unlock Ballistic Weave, then ignore them

3) MM: Proceed though the main quest using the MM to build the transporter

4) Institute: Upon entering kill your son upon sight, feel free to stick around to get some random kills and XP and maybe the serum, then leave

The game then continues with you needing to get 8 settlements upon which an attack upon the castle is triggered by the Institute, and then the MM attack and destroy the Institute. The results in BOS that are not hostile with RR and vice versa as you never moved either faction's quests along enough for them to trigger the 'destroy the xxx' quest.

1 tip - the attack happens as soon as you get 8 settlements wether you are ready at the castle or not, my advice is fortify the place then get the settlements.

Hope that helps!

Sadly that won't work. I already killed Kellog, told Danse that I would join. Also, I already explored the institute for loot and the serum. So it's too late to kill father when I first met him.

Sorry about that.

So you're saying that I did it right?

Sorry, wrong thread. Comment removed as it wasn't pertinent. Wow what an inauspicious way to start out after finally getting around to registering for the forum. :nope:

Pretty much, just complete form ranks and you'll be on your way to the MM ending.

THERE'S A WAY TO DO MOST OF THE FACTION QUESTS FOR EACH FACTION. YOU CAN DOUBLE CHECK THIS WITH A TOPIC OUT HERE ABOUT THE "BEST" ENDING. (It isn't the one on YouTube, I did that one too, but it's too complicated.) This was relatively easy.

I've done this, and it worked.

Spoiler
1. You can do ALL the BOS quests up to and including Blind Betrayal.

2. Use the Minute Men to build your molecular relay.

3. You can do all the MM Quests up to and including Defend the Castle.

4. You can do all the RAILROAD quests until you get Ballistic Weave. Just don't let PAM send you out to kill the BOS. (You can do the cache quests and Courser Kill Quests and all the SafeHouse quests).

5. You can do the Battle of Bunker Hill. Kill the Courser, leave the synths, and lie to Father. "We were ambushed."

6. You can do all the Institute Quests up to Mass Fusion.

7. Get Mass Fusion from what's her name at the Institute but inform the Brotherhood and go with them to Mass Fusion. You will be banished from the Institute at this point.

8. Use the MM solution to get into the Institute to destroy it.

Just save often in case you go a step too far. [edited to add content]

You can do the BOS (and the RR) to a point, just dont have them go after each other. Same with Institute.

You can kill you son anytime you like, I tend not to give him any chance to speak and blast him..

So if I build the relay with the railroad there is no way to do the minute man ending?

The 3 faction solution is not too difficult, this is the list I use:

Spoiler

Brotherhood of Steel: Complete Blind Betrayal, but don't talk to Maxson back at the Prydwen yet.

Institute: Don’t progress Mass Fusion.

Minutemen: Preston get based at Sanctuary

Railroad: Don’t progress Underground Undercover.

Steps:

  1. Start Mass Fusion by talking to Allie Filmore, but inform the Brotherhood

  2. Start and complete Spoils of War.

  3. Talk to Desdemona to progress Burning Cover.

  4. Go talk to Preston to complete Burning Cover.

  5. Get hold of the holotype from Inside Job (if not already done).

  6. Hand in Blind Betrayal but avoid Captain Kells.

  7. Give Sturges the tape, talk to Preston and complete Defend the Castle.

  8. Complete the Nuclear Option with the Minutemen

It does however have a couple of minor issues post-game you need to be aware of:

  • Spoiler

    • Glory will still wander around the Railroad despite others discussing her as if she's dead.

    • PAM will want you to deal with adversarial BoS groups when the BoS are fine (if a little annoyed with you)

      so just avoid her.

It would be nice if in a future patch, Bethesda could recognise the 3 faction ending as an official solution

and deal with those minor issues.

I have that - Glory and Danse both are non interactable as the game thinks they are dead or otherwise indisposed.

The PAM 'Hunt the BOS' missions are entirely optional, same as Carrington's Synth Rescue, if you visit RR (for say Tinker Tom's shop) Drummer Boy will tell you that PAM/Carrington wants to speak to you but unless you do the mission is not presented and in any case is entirely rejectable at that point.

I don't see these as issues though, RR is just mopping up post Institute destruction and if you attack too many BOS patrols/vertibirds they will go hostile and trigger the MM taking out the Prydwen.

You can do a lot of quests and don't have to kill Father at first sight.

I even completed Battle for Bunker Hill and also did some radiant quests for some scientists and got X6-88's affinity maxed. You can get banished when ever you chose to.

Just don't do Mass Fusion. During my first play-through, I just killed Ayo when I was ready and then got banished. Then I went to Preston. I never even talked to Allie about Mass Fusion.

Yeah, but if you talk to Allie but then inform the BOS, you can do the quest for THEM, and use that to banish you from the institute.

Oh cool, good to know. I'll do that next time around then. Thanks!

No, you can build the relay with whom ever you like. You can still do the MM ending. You just need to get banished from the Institute in some way, later on down the road. First, I always enjoy the hot showers and clean towels LOL
