Hello all,


I recently upgraded my gpu to a gtx 980 ti. It actually seems like I had better performance with my old gtx 970 on 1.3 than I do currently on 1.4. I'm seeing pretty constant 50-57 FPS in downtown and around Boston Common with dips to 47 fairly often. FPS hovering around 49-54 FPS in a large settlement room where I have counters and 7 ceiling light fixtures with nothing else in there.


Did I mess something up? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or input.




Updated gpu drivers when I installed the new card and also tried rolling back latest nvidia drivers to the previous one



Followed this guide for ini settings, etc.

Used Nvidia Inspector to limit frame rate, etc according to the guide above


Tried using FPS dynamic shadows - Shadow Boost by Alexander Blade


Tried using Vivid Fallout Landscapes and Vivid Fallout Rocks


Tried both of the highly rated texture optimization mods with virtually no improvement

Fallout 4 Settings

One of the recommended methods is to:

1. Download http://www.guru3d.com/content-page/guru3d-driver-sweeper.html

2. Uninstall existing drivers

3. Boot into Safe Mode

4. Run Driver Sweeper

5. Re-boot into normal mode

6. Install nVidia drivers

Be aware that the http://wccftech.com/nvidia-users-beware-latest-drivers-damage-pc/. It is recommended to install http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/98550 to be safe.

As far as performance goes, try turning-off DoF. I personally don't use DoF as the feature doesn't add much to the game versus the performance hit taken.

Thanks for the response Ace. I did go through the complete sweep and removal of the newer driver and installing the older driver. It didn't make a noticeable difference.


As far as disabling DoF for performance. With my current system there should not be a need to correct?


I was kind of hoping I'd missed something to be honest.

Ambient Occlision: HBAO+ "eats" your fps, as much as 10fps or more. Change it back to SSAO

Also godrays. Not worth the hit, drop to medium. Unless you're viewing a still image you can't tell the difference.

Why you limit your fps with Nvidia inspector?

Can't the game keep your FPS near to 60 with Vsync enabled through Nvidia control panel?

What's your native monitor resolution - 60Hz or higher?

The system should be able to maintain 60fps through the game without problems.

I would suggest to uninstall any programs that you don't actually need from your computer.

What other change have you made after you installed the GTX 980Ti...mostly programs related.

Have you changed anyhting on your ini settings?

Your Fallout 4 settings are pretty normal for an GTX 980Ti.

The regular way is to try how the game reacts wiτhout any tweaks at all, before trying to make some changes...for better results.
