Steel

Not the faction, but the actual item. I never have enough of it and I'm starting to tap most of my settlements dry... and that was just to build up Sanctuary. I'm doing a really thorough playthrough with the settlement system right now and I'm setting up some major hub areas and then building up the other settlements to be more rustic. As of now, I will have 3 hubs: Sanctuary, County Crossing, and then the Castle. Sanctuary will probably be the most extensive, but I'm planning on pouring some time into County Crossing too. I just need a good source for steel that I can farm more or less. Do scavenging stations provide it for you or do you guys have another source you like to use?

TBH steel is everywhere - if you have the patience to collect every last piece of junk.

I usually pick up everything, store it in containers as I go (make a mental note of where) then (shame on me) fast travel back later in my Power Armour plud Radstag food, Buffout etc., and collect it all and fast travel back to bases.

Best I can offer I'm afraid.

Many Interior Locations respawn, Weapons and Armor can be Scrapped, and You may run out of Wood soon :brokencomputer:

Scrap guns and armor

My resource ration for steel is 5:1 vs wood.

Why not setup some Ind Water Purifiers, sell the water and buy the steel? In fact, buy everything you need.

4-5 is all you need to never grind junk again.

Since I've been selling loots, now I buy steel from Mirna and Arturo.

With 2 levels of the scrapper perk, you can scrap all those pipe pistols & raider armors, pipe pistols yield 3 steel (I think), and raider armor 1. There also seems to be much more junk lying around that yields steel, as opposed to wood. Wood is what I run out of the most, it's hard to collect enough battered clip boards and mops, chessboards, cigar boxes to amount to much, considering just to create a one square foundation requires 10-12 wood.

This.

The shop in DC often sells multiple shipments.

Any other settlement that has a lot of old cars in them. You can pull off tons of steel. Examples being the Starlight Drive-in which is basically a gold mine, or perhaps Jamaica Plain and Red Rocket. Besides that, you can start picking up cans/tin cans. May seem like a lot of work, but once you start looking for them, you'll realize they're everywhere. Like everywhere.

steel is everywhere. just set the "search for" to steel. you'll be surprised just how much stuff contains it. weapons and armor are great sources. especially hunting riffles and 10mm pistols. I think they have 5 and 7 steel respectively. and scrap weapons whenever you can. weapons are much heavier than their broken down components. also, try not to use it if you don't have to. for example, sleeping bags can be made with just cloth, while beds require steel.
