Playstyle Transition

Post » Sat Mar 19, 2016 3:08 pm

So i'm around level 38 now and my playstyle is one that uses heavy weapons (missile launcher is my favourite) and i also use melee weapons when i'm in close range.

The problem is that now i've almost maxed out both of the damage modifiers the weapons are so overpowered. I'm also at a level where i can buy around 10 missiles from most merchants so i'm never short of ammo.

As the weapons are overpowered i can easily take out virtually anything, without taking a scratch. I've put the difficulty higher now and it still seems too easy to blow everything up and one hit enemies with my supersledge (not saying this isn't satisfying). I love Fallout and i love the freedom it gives you to be anyone you want but i don't know whether to carry on or to start a whole new game.

I think i want to try a different build, but i feel like i've come too far in this playthrough to stop. I was wondering if anyone has shifted playstyles at this point and what is the best way to do this. I could either pile the next 5 perks i get into perception (now thinking VATs rifle build) or should i just go buy the weapons i need mod them out and give up all my current weapons cold turkey.

I would love to hear the playstyles people transitioned from and how they did it to keep the game fresh. Thanks

Keep your current character on the side so you can load up whenever you want to go back to that one and start a new one designed for the new playstyle :D Given your advancement changing your combat style while not being ridiculously OP for a bit will still be OP just because of how far you've come. If you want to really test a new combat style starting another guy is the way to go. I say that as a 175 that's gathered all the damage perks over time as well as bonuses and vats perks and I'm just an ass kicking mess :D

That's a great idea, the only problem is that i've done the railroad quest now and got the armour mod. I'm not going to say what it is as i don't want to spoil it. but i'm looking forward of using that and rocking normal clothes out on the field. I want that but also a new playthrough... Not asking much am i (sarcasm). haha :wavey:

Hah! Yeah that armor is fun. Can't wait for mods to expand the variety for it. ;) And ya don't have to start over. I wouldn't dream of starting a new character but I also really really enjoy face rolling every enemy in my path with whatever method I feel like. And I like being filthy filthy rich. Ah the life of a water baron.

My last character was a gun only character up until about level 50ish then I started incorporating swords into the playthrough and basically used both guns and a sword til the end.

Slap on a tux with your new special armour upgrade (no spoilers ??) and a pair of shades. Use the pistol that you would've got around the same time as the armour and go all 007. Starting a stealthy build at your level will give you a good change of pace. If you don't have any stealth perks yet it'll toughen things up until you can invest some points in perks. Then it'll become OP. I'm level 53 and can one shot stealth anything with a toothbrush ?? I think Bethesda maybe works on that formula tho? At a certain point no matter what your build and difficulty level you become an unstoppable killing machine. Enjoyment for those of us that have a god/super hero complex but can also be a bit of a grind when it's just "go here smash everyone into bits without getting a scratch and return to get the xp"

I started out using sniper rifles and pistols for the most part but when I passed level 100 and I was throwing perk points into ~strength~ of all places, I thought I'd try doing things a little differently and I used the Blitz agility perk to basically teleport around the battlefield from stealth, slicing and dicing foes with melee weapons before they knew I was there. I miss the Skyrim style stealth melee executions but being able to teleport from foe to foe in Fallout sure makes things easier.

I started as a sniper with Rifleman. As I found remarkable weapons in other categories, I added Commando, Demolitions and later Big Guns.

So I wasn't changing my play style so much as expanding it. But not willy-nilly; the inspirational weapon came first.

I'm pretty fond of the teleporting executions we have now but I wish they would happen a lot more often.

You are only lvl 38! You can easily now change over to just use pistols or automatic weapons and then build a Rifleman or Pistol character. Also, if everything seems to easy, try changing the difficulty of the game. Your ballistic weapons will be a bit weak at the beginning, since you might not have put any points into the respective perks.

Start playing a sneaky sniper or just use 10MM pistols, just change it up a bit. My characters are usually between 75 and 80, before I even think about starting a new one. :)

You could transition from a heavy gunner to an automatic rifle user, with either sneak or personality mixed in. Or even both.
